About The Position

We Energies, a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is seeking a Plant Operator in our Oak Creek, Wisconsin location. This position is represented by We Energies Local 420S Union.

Requirements

  • Will require the use of a respirator in certain situations.
  • Candidates may be required to demonstrate their ability to perform the physical functions of the position by completing a Physical Capacity Evaluation.
  • Plant Operator Selection System (POSS): Ability to read and understand technical material, ability to understand mechanical principles, skill in solving and manipulating mathematical relationships including word problems and algebra, ability to visualize the proper assembled form of an object, and speed and accuracy in reading tables and graphs.

Responsibilities

  • Operating generation facilities and associated equipment as needed.
  • Investigating abnormal operating conditions and initiating corrective action.
  • Performing preventative maintenance and making routine repairs.
  • Assisting others with maintenance activities as needed.
  • Starting and regulating equipment locally and remotely to meet system generating needs, including observing and interpreting instruments, alarms, and indicators; analyzing water and adding chemicals; and performing actions for safe and continual operating conditions.
  • Logging data and maintaining accurate records, including unusual operating conditions and corrective actions taken.
  • Isolating equipment and performing necessary switching.
  • Participating in the administration of the Energy Controls Process if trained and qualified.
  • Operating and maintaining fuel handling equipment such as front-end loaders and other plant service vehicles.
  • Troubleshooting and correcting malfunctions of equipment, including pumps, motors, valves, fans, air compressors, gear trains, fuel and water systems, lighting systems, steam generators, turbines, etc.
  • Performing routine repairs and preventative maintenance, such as changing filters, repacking equipment, removing and replacing valves, lubricating and greasing equipment, and replacing belts.
  • Maintaining the work area in a safe, clean, neat, and orderly state.
  • Participating in performing periodic maintenance inspections and assisting in the removal, repair, and reinstallation of equipment.
  • Assisting in keeping the plant and grounds in good repair.
  • Receiving and procuring materials and providing information to maintain an inventory control program.
  • Performing sample collections and maintaining records.
  • Providing training to others as required.
  • Must have above average aptitude for mechanical/technical work and an acceptable attendance and safety record.
  • Ability and willingness to work a rotating shift schedule, including days, nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, and changes to scheduled hours or shifts as required to support plant operations and staffing needs.
