Airgas is Hiring for a Plant Operator in Lincoln Park, NJ! Plant Operator performs any combination of following tasks on site in making or repackaging compressed and liquefied gas: Sorts empty cylinders being received by filling plant for refilling and performs necessary prefill inspection steps to qualify cylinders for refill. Examines returned cylinders for surface defects, such as dents, cracks, and burns, and rolls cylinders to designated work area. Responsible for safely handling and filling gas products into liquid, medical and high pressure gas cylinders in compliance with federal, state, local regulations, and meeting the standard operating procedures of Airgas. Loads cylinders on vehicles, using hand truck, chain hoist or forklift, and records type and quantity of cylinders. Managing customer service relationships, purchasing requisitions, key performance data and distribution of all Airgas Inventory on the customer sites. Loads and unloads gas cylinders and/or other products onto and off of route trucks and trailers, moving cylinders with proper carts only to ensure safety. Sorts empty cylinders by type to maintain an organized workflow. Rolls cylinders and operates a forklift truck for the movement of cylinders on pallets. Prioritizes the safety and knowledge of various gases; recognizes the size and contents of cylinders by reading and interpreting cylinder labels and the color-coding of tanks. Accurately labels cylinders. Safely stewards high-pressure, medical, and liquid cylinders. Prepares high-pressure cylinders and cryogenic vessels for filling. Attaches to manifold, and evacuates cylinders to eliminate all possible contaminants. Contributes to basic cylinder maintenance such as painting cylinders, labeling cylinders, and keeping the work area clean and organized. Inspects cylinders prior to filling, following the excellent safety standards required by government, Airgas, and distributor regulations. Conducts a variety of safety checks per procedures, such as odor tests and checking caps and valves. Fills cylinders by pressure and weight, according to regulations and standards. Verifies cylinder quantities, styles, and products, and/or assists the team with inventory. Coordinates paperwork to DOT, FDA, OSHA, and Airgas standards. Completes quality control sheets with attention to detail. Upholds all government and company standards relating to the safe handling of hazardous materials/cylinder gases. Maintains a neat, clean, and orderly plant appearance. Supports the team with other needs as they arise. Coordinates the pickup and return of empty cylinders to storage areas, supporting the production facility's consistent workflow. Verifies cylinder gas deliveries to ensure accurate documentation and seamless team communication. Maintains and refreshes gas/liquid cylinder manifolds at partner service sites to ensure high-quality service.

Requirements

  • High school degree or GED required.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Lives by Airgas safety programs, OSHA, and all related rules, regulations, procedures which are applicable to this position's responsibilities.
  • A minimum of 1 year of related technical experience.
  • In lieu of specific industry experience, may accept an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratios, and percent.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience utilizing SAP or similar ERP system preferred.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Google Suite or Microsoft Office applications.
