About The Position

Monitors and operates all equipment and materials for an Oil Processing Facility and its various systems on the North Slope. This includes all associated surface equipment including turbines, pumps, compressors, valves, tanks, and other vessels, to maintain a safe work environment for the company. Maintains a Logbook with pertine n t notes c oncernin g process status with an y adj u stments, and other facility area i n formatio n to c o mmunicate a cross wor k sh i fts. Implement s company’s “Spill Prevent i on, Control, an d Counte r measures Plan” (SPCC), as n eeded. Develops an d impl e ments Proces s Isolation Pla n s, us i ng OSHA stan d ard LOTO Protocol. Inspects pipeli n es, va l ves, a n d flanges to de t ect malf u nctions, such as l oose con n ections and le a ks. Understands an d uses pro p er techni q ues for maki n g-up and/or tighteni n g variou s pipin g and equipment connections inclu d ing flan g es, threaded p i pe, and various t ypes of compre s sion fittin g s. Understands th e operat i on of and uses a stan d ard 4-gas, atm o spheric ga s detector/ m onitor as needed. Becomes familia r with and uses a p r ocess Distrib u tive Control Syst e m for various proces s controls includi n g; openin g /closing valves, startin g /stop p ing process equipmen t , and maintaining o r changing various p r ocess contro l schem e s. Starts and stops p r ocess eq u ipment includin g Gas Fir e d Turbines a n d other pro c es s systems, using the facili t y’s Standar d Operating Proced u res, as well a s startin g an d stopping equi p ment under emerge n cy c onditions. Monitors an d helps maint a in the Fire & G a s Safety S ystems. This include s Gas De t ectors and Fire Indicators, as w ell as Ha l on and Fi r e Water Distrib u ti o n systems. Monitors an d responds t o the facili t y Fire and Gas, a n d Process ala r ms, through o ut the entire t y of their work shift. Demonstrate d ability to r e ad, understan d and use p r ocess flow diagr a ms (PFD’ s ) and pipin g & instrument di a grams ( P&ID’s). Requirements

  • Minimum five (5) years of facility operations experience on the North Slope, with strong familiarity across oil and water handling systems.
  • Minimum three (3) years of control room or board operation experience involving 3-phase separation at a North Slope production facility.
  • Solid understanding of production well behavior and how changes in well conditions impact surface facility operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot process upsets, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions across the full production train—including separation, gas compression, and water reinjection systems.
  • Working knowledge of common North Slope equipment such as test and production separators, heater treaters, crude transfer pumps, produced water injection systems, and vapor recovery units.
  • Experience interpreting process flow diagrams (PFDs), P&IDs, and understanding the interrelation of facility equipment within a production system.
  • Proven ability to operate facilities independently, while maintaining safe, environmentally sound, and efficient operations.
  • Skilled in recognizing non-routine operating conditions, notifying supervisors, and recommending viable solutions.
  • Ability to lead and mentor junior operators, providing direction and hands-on training during normal and upset conditions.
  • Familiarity with common instrumentation and control systems used in North Slope facilities (SCADA, and PLC-based logic).
  • Proficient in performing routine and as-needed equipment surveillance and trending for performance monitoring.
  • Comfortable working in Arctic conditions and committed to maintaining a high standard of safety and operational excellence.
  • Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent or any equivalent combination of education and experience demonstrating sufficient knowledge, ability and skill to handle the duties and responsibilities of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects equipment for safety problems, leaks, or wear and tear.
  • Will troubleshoot process and/or equipment malfunctions for recommendations on repair options.
  • Generates proper repair requests for malfunctioning or failed process or safety equipment.
  • Procures necessary materials and supplies to complete daily tasks.
  • Completes various daily equipment and process readings, flare reports, tank inspections, and safety equipment inspections.
  • Maintains a Logbook with pertinent notes concerning process status with any adjustments, and other facility area information to communicate across work shifts.
  • Implements company’s “Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasures Plan” (SPCC), as needed.
  • Develops and implements Process Isolation Plans, using OSHA standard LOTO Protocol.
  • Inspects pipelines, valves, and flanges to detect malfunctions, such as loose connections and leaks.
  • Understands and uses proper techniques for making-up and/or tightening various piping and equipment connections including flanges, threaded pipe, and various types of compression fittings.
  • Understands the operation of and uses a standard 4-gas, atmospheric gas detector/monitor as needed.
  • Becomes familiar with and uses a process Distributive Control System for various process controls including; opening /closing valves, starting /stopping process equipment, and maintaining or changing various process control schemes.
  • Starts and stops process equipment including Gas Fired Turbines and other process systems, using the facility’s Standard Operating Procedures, as well as starting and stopping equipment under emergency conditions.
  • Monitors and helps maintain the Fire & Gas Safety Systems. This includes Gas Detectors and Fire Indicators, as well as Halon and Fire Water Distribution systems.
  • Monitors and responds to the facility Fire and Gas, and Process alarms, throughout the entire ty of their work shift.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, understand and use process flow diagrams (PFD’s) and piping & instrument diagrams (P&ID’s).
