About The Position

Airgas is hiring a Plant Operator in Midland, MI. This role is responsible for safely handling and filling gas products into liquid, medical, and high-pressure gas cylinders in compliance with regulations and standard operating procedures. The operator will perform cylinder analyses, calculate gas mixtures, and ensure compatibility of cylinder and valve combinations. They will operate control panels, maintain accurate production records, and uphold safety procedures for hazardous materials. The position also involves operating warehouse equipment like forklifts and pallet jacks, and loading/unloading cylinders.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Ability to perform math functions.
  • Lives by Airgas safety programs, OSHA, and all related rules, regulations, procedures which are applicable to this position’s responsibilities.

Nice To Haves

  • HS Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • One year of experience in manufacturing operations or loading experience is preferred.
  • Strong background in gas, welding and safety supply industry or chemical industry preferred.
  • Ability to safely operate a forklift.

Responsibilities

  • Safely handle and fill gas products into liquid, medical, and high-pressure gas cylinders in compliance with federal, state, local regulations, and standard operating procedures.
  • Perform cylinder analyses and support alignment with government and company standards.
  • Calculate gas mixtures to contribute to quality standards and document results, ensuring mixtures can be safely made.
  • Identify and coordinate cylinder and valve combinations for compatibility and compliance.
  • Operate control panels, including valves, pressure gauges, and scales, with a precision-oriented approach to gas mixtures.
  • Complete all meaningful records to accurately capture all production actions.
  • Uphold and promote company procedures and government regulations relating to the safe handling of hazardous materials.
  • Safely operate a forklift, pallet jack, and other warehouse/material-handling equipment.
  • Load/unload cylinders on/off pallets, ensuring they are strapped in.
  • Contribute to team success as needed.
