About The Position

We are excited to offer an opportunity to join Orica as a Plant Operator within our Orica Specialty Mining Chemicals (OSMC) team. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting plant operations related to rail and freight loading/unloading, as well as operating basic process equipment. With a strong focus on safety, environmental responsibility, and operational efficiency, you will help convert raw materials into liquid sodium cyanide, ensuring timely and accurate shipments to our customers.

Requirements

Ability to read and understand basic instructions, memos, and short correspondence.
Comfortable writing simple messages and communicating clearly in small group settings.
Basic math skills, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
Able to calculate rates, ratios, and percentages as needed for operational tasks.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to apply common sense in routine situations.
Basic computer skills required (e.g., data entry, email, basic system navigation).
Willingness to complete ongoing safety and job-related training.
A high school diploma or GED is required.
Must have a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

Monitor the movement of products to and from storage tanks, coordinating with team members to ensure a steady and safe product flow.
Record key operating data, such as quantities pumped, gauge readings, and operating times, either manually or using computer systems.
Inspect vessels for cleanliness and verify they meet loading procedures and weight requirements.
Perform railcar groundwork, including connecting/disconnecting couplers and air lines, and assisting with railcar spotting.
Set manual brakes on railcars as needed.
Support general site upkeep, including groundskeeping tasks like weed removal.
Take on additional duties as assigned to support plant operations.
