Airgas is hiring a Plant Operator in Waukesha, WI. This role supports the team by safely operating equipment for the handling and production of packaged gas cylinders, both for high pressure and liquefied gasses. The operator will load and unload gas cylinders and/or other products onto and off of route trucks and trailers, moving cylinders with proper carts only. They will sort empty cylinders by type to ensure an organized workflow, and operate a forklift truck for the movement of cylinders on pallets. The role involves developing an understanding of hazards of various gases, cylinder sizes and contents by reading and interpreting cylinder labels and color-coding of tanks. Responsibilities include accurately labeling cylinders, safely caring for high-pressure, medical and liquid cylinders, and preparing high pressure cylinders and cryogenic vessels for filling. This includes attaching to manifold and evacuating cylinders to eliminate contaminants. The role also contributes to basic cylinder maintenance such as painting and labeling cylinders, and cleaning the work area. Inspections of cylinders prior to filling are required, following standard procedures as required by government, Airgas, and distributor standards. Safety checks, such as odor tests and checking caps and valves, are conducted per procedures. Cylinders are filled by pressure and weight, per regulations and standards. The operator will check for cylinder quantities, styles and product, and/or assist the team with inventory. Coordination of documentation to DOT, FDA, OSHA, and Airgas standards is necessary, and quality control sheets are completed as required. The Plant Operator upholds all government and company standards relating to the safe handling of hazardous materials/cylinder gases.
