About The Position

The Plant Operator 1 processes previous service gas cylinders in preparation for new gas production. Contributes to team safety, product quality, and high operational standards during the work shift. Collaborates with the team to organize and sort cylinders according to cylinder size and service, support cylinder maintenance (scraping/painting), and ensure an orderly yard, moving inventory by forklift and handcart within the facility. Performs careful inspection and preparation of high and low pressure cylinders for the filling process, supporting ongoing maintenance care on cylinders. Partner with logistics to load and unload common carrier trucks and Airgas shuttle trucks.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Comprehension of basic math skills.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel and Outlook) or equivalent software.
  • Ability to clearly write and fill out a report in English.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, safety data sheets and procedure manuals using the English language.
  • Ability to read pressure and temperature indicators.
  • Ability to connect and disconnect filling lines.
  • Ability to move gas cylinders.
  • Work in a team environment and follow directions.
  • Ability to work all shifts; subject to all weather conditions.
  • Stand; use hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Lift and or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to focus.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and organize incoming gas cylinders.
  • Transport cylinders safely to designated processing areas.
  • Prepare cylinder surfaces by removing old labels.
  • Apply protective paint and temperature coatings to cylinders.
  • Conduct thorough visual inspections of gas cylinders.
  • Install new cylinder valves in both low and high pressure cylinders.
  • Contribute to a clean, well-organized cylinder yard.
  • Store cylinders in designated locations by service, cylinder size, and valve type.
  • Support valve and cylinder inventory tracking.
  • Gain certification to operate forklifts and partner in routine safety inspections.
  • Safely assist with loading compressed gas cylinders onto and off of cylinder pallets.
  • Collaborate on loading and unloading common carrier trucks and Airgas shuttles.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on cylinder prep equipment.
  • Maintain a safe, welcoming, and organized work area.
  • Champion Health and Safety and ISO Quality initiatives alongside the management team.
  • Contribute to additional team priorities as needed.
