About The Position

This position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of Shady Hills Energy Center in accordance with approved plant operating and maintenance procedures. The Plant Operations Technician II may be assigned duties in the Control Room or as an Outside Plant Operator as well as the maintenance craft in which the employee is fully trained and qualified. Plant Operations Technician II must maintain Control Room Operator and assigned maintenance craft qualifications. Performs operating duties, rounds, and checks of assigned plant equipment. Makes the necessary equipment adjustments within their direct control, performs other related work, and assists employees as needed. Helps train employees in their job requirements and duties. Performs trained advance maintenance tasks as needed and required.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Completion of a formal, accredited, or certified maintenance craft training program, or related military or industrial setting experience in a control room setting is required.
  • Two (2) years of power plant Control Room Operation experience is required.
  • Must be able to refer to and understand technical and operating manuals.
  • Ability to qualify and maintain competency in the following skill areas is required: Operations (control room operator and outside plant operator), Advanced Instrument & Controls maintenance or Advanced Mechanical maintenance or Advanced Electrical maintenance, All Site-Specific Safety Standards, All Site-Specific Environmental and Water Standards.
  • Must be able to follow established protective measures including wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.
  • Work at heights over 250 feet and in confined areas.
  • Must be able to safely lift objects of 60 lbs.
  • Required to perform job tasks while wearing protective clothing, air purified respirators, and self-contained breathing apparatus.
  • Manual labor is required.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend stationary and portable ladders.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior Combined Cycle experience is desirable.
  • Additional college level coursework in math and science desirable.
  • Completion of Plant Operations Technician I, II and assigned maintenance craft qualification standards.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the safe, effective, and efficient operations of the plant and reports directly to the Supervisor of Operations and will be assigned to a 12-hour rotating shift.
  • Maintains open communication with System Operations regarding issues affecting plant availability
  • Directs Plant Technicians in local operation and verification of plant equipment status
  • Ensures compliance with environment, health & safety guidelines, operating permits, and regulations
  • Operates Plant equipment as control room operator and outside operator in compliance with approved operating procedures
  • Effectively performs unit start-ups, shutdowns, and load changes of the combined cycle units
  • Effectively utilizes approved casualty procedures, including the Emergency Response Plan, and returns the plant to a safe condition in an expeditious, safe, and reliable method
  • Acknowledges plant alarms and takes appropriate corrective actions always keeping protection of the company assets foremost in responding to the alarms and events
  • Maintains accurate, detailed logs of plant activities, abnormal conditions, dispatch orders, start-ups, shutdowns, plant trips, and personnel activities on site
  • Effectively monitors plant operations through log-taking, visual, and hands-on plant monitoring
  • Monitors and ensures plant operation in accordance with all air permits and air pollution and environmental control standards
  • Troubleshoots abnormal plant conditions prior to the condition becoming critical
  • Conducts thorough turnovers with plant personnel when passing on plant status or task assignments
  • Performs and reviews cycle chemistry and takes appropriate actions to maintain normal conditions
  • Reviews cycle emissions and takes appropriate actions to maintain permitted values
  • Offloads bulk deliveries of plant chemicals
  • Performs all duties as described in I&C Tech and/or Electrical Tech and/or Mechanical Tech job descriptions
  • Assists supervision in the implementation of the Lock-out Tag-out program
  • Reads, interprets, and comprehends logic diagrams, P&IDs, electrical one lines, and OEM operating manuals
  • Traces logic diagrams, corrects errors, compiles reports, and forces points as directed by supervision
  • Identifies and tags plant deficiencies and initiates work orders in accordance with plant procedures
  • Strives to continuously improve performance by being a supportive team member to meet or exceed goals
  • Completes required initial and recertification training as outlined in the appropriate qualification standard
  • Monitors assigned contract personnel activities during maintenance, outages, or projects
  • Serves as a member of the Emergency Response Team
  • Troubleshoots, plans, and performs basic maintenance on all plant equipment
  • Writes operation and maintenance procedures and submits for approval as needed or assigned
  • Assists in the training and qualification of plant personnel as assigned
  • Performs housekeeping and preservation duties as assigned
  • Must be self-motivated and capable of performing required tasks or duties with little or no direction
  • Performs other duties as applicable to the position or as assigned
  • Performs NERC Compliance Program roles if/as designated in Seminole's Standard Ownership Matrix (SOM) including ongoing evidence retention in "audit-ready" form. Familiarity with Seminole's Enterprise Internal Compliance Program (ENT-GCD-RGC-EP-054) is expected.
