About The Position

The Plant Operations Supervisor is a working supervisor who performs similar or like work as a Maintenance Mechanic III when needed. This role involves assigning and managing daily workflow activities, overseeing staff, and coordinating work efforts between shifts. The supervisor reviews progress to ensure jobs are completed properly and on time. They participate in the budget process, HRSA funding, and establish program guidelines addressing job functions, operational requirements, and code compliance. The position also involves gathering data for C.Q.I. principles, maintaining records for regulatory documentation, and managing hospital engineering management systems. Responsibilities include performance planning, counseling, disciplinary actions, and interviewing candidates in consultation with the Facilities Director. The supervisor provides input for departmental goals, assists the Facilities Director with project activity, and acts as a liaison with various stakeholders. On-call responsibility is shared, and the supervisor conducts in-service training and employee meetings. They participate in Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance policies and procedures and direct department activities in the absence of the Facilities Manager. Oversight of the facility's M.S.D.S. inventory is also required, along with performing other duties as needed. The role requires clear communication and continuous support of the Mission and Values of Johnson Memorial Health, conducting all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and policies, including Blood and Body Substance Precautions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least one certification in the various mechanical trades required.
  • Knowledge of NFPA Life Safety building standards and fire equipment scheduling required.
  • At least five years’ experience in related fields with some supervisory experience required.
  • A strong knowledge of building automation, fire suppression, utility distribution and building management concepts required.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of computer concepts displaying working ability with programming, backup hardware, engineering type software applications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assigns and manages daily workflow activities while overseeing staff.
  • Coordinates work effort between shifts to help control workflow demand.
  • Reviews progress to assure jobs are completed in the proper manner and at an appropriate time.
  • Participates in the budget process providing input for expenditure planning and cost control measures.
  • Participates in all District 5 meetings and is responsible for HRSA funding.
  • Establishes program guidelines so that criteria address job functions, operational requirements and code compliance issues.
  • Gathers data to ascertain operational parameters for evaluation of C.Q.I. principals and keeps records current for regulatory documentation requirements.
  • Manages hospital engineering management systems to keep programs flowing and to maintain consistency of duty requirements within the facility.
  • Responsible for performance planning, counseling, and conducting disciplinary action in consultation with Facilities Director.
  • Interviews possible candidates as part of the hiring process and makes hiring decisions in consultation with Facilities Director.
  • Provides input for establishment of departmental goals and objectives.
  • Works in conjunction with the Facilities Director to control project activity by providing assistance and direction when requested.
  • Acts as liaison and interacts with Administration, Department Managers, visitors, and industry for the purpose of establishing goals and resolving issues.
  • Shares on-call responsibility, normally rotating every other week making whereabouts known and responding when requested.
  • Conducts in-service training and Plant Operations Employee meetings, providing agenda information and documentation of activities and attendance.
  • Participates in Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance policies and procedures, and the Mission and Value Statement.
  • Directs Department activities in absence of Facilities Manager.
  • Oversees maintenance of facility M.S.D.S. inventory.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Clearly communicates and continuously supports the Mission and Values of Johnson Memorial Health.
