About The Position

This position is eligible for a $1,500 sign-on retention bonus! Bodycote offers paid holidays and paid time off, as well as 401k match, Medical, Dental, and Vision Plans for employees and families. Candidates must pass a pre-employment drug screen and basic physical; have the ability to work full-time, 40+ hours per week. The hours for this role are Monday-Friday, 6:00am-2:30pm, weekends as required. Due to the nature of our business and a heavy industrial market, Bodycote deems this position to be safety-sensitive. Based in Grand Rapids, MI the Supervisor will perform essential job functions associated with heat treatment under the direction of the General Manager to meet customer specifications including assisting other employees as needed.

Requirements

  • This position must satisfy ITAR compliance requirements; therefore, candidates must be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Resident cardholders.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in heat treating or related industry.
  • Must be able to effectively oversee heat treaters and/or other employees as designated, using leadership qualities such as the ability to listen, be observant, patient, objective, and responsive.
  • Must have working knowledge of metallurgy, temperatures, etc.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain forklift operator certification.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language.
  • Must be able to work in a standing and/or sitting position for extended periods of time (at desk, while driving, and/or on airplane travel) in an industrial environment.
  • Manual dexterity to perform data entry functions.
  • Ability to bend, pull, stoop, and reach to perform functions.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
  • Must have the cognitive and mental capacity to perform essential job functions.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Visual acuity to read documents, computer screens, files, etc.
  • Ability to hear in person and via phone.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced knowledge of heat treating, testing, and commercial/aircraft/aerospace materials is helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for oversight of the department and process to ensure safety, accuracy, quality, and on-time delivery.
  • Provide process improvements and make recommendations on solutions for process improvements.
  • Instructs and directs the work activities of employees in assigned work areas.
  • Trains and directs the activities of department employees, maintaining effective communication of customer needs/requirements and company goals.
  • Keeps close track of work in progress and regularly confers with foreman and/or management staff.
  • Operates, controls, and monitors heat treating equipment as needed/required.
  • Practices and promotes safety and good housekeeping.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned or dictated by position.
  • May have access to compensation information of other employees or applicants in this role, and as such cannot disclose the pay of other employees or applicants to other individuals.
  • This position is responsible for the care and treatment of our customers’ inventory and, as such, will perform duties safely and responsibly to prevent customer loss or damage.
  • Must have the ability to report for work on time, follow directions, interact effectively with co-workers, understand and follow rules and procedures, and accept constructive criticism.
