About The Position

Toromont Power is looking for a Plant Operating Engineer to join our team! Operate and maintain Sudbury District Energy (SDE) registered thermal and electrical generating plants in accordance with Technical Standards and Safety Act 2000, Ontario Regulation 219/01.

Requirements

  • Valid Operating Engineer Fourth Class Certificate.
  • Valid Ontario Drivers License.
  • Relevant industry experience, specifically thermal energy, reciprocating engine and co-generation power plants.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with chilled water systems, including reciprocating / screw type and absorption chillers, boiler circulation pumps, sprinkler systems and air compressors.
  • Must be knowledgeable with SCADA and PLC as related to plant operations.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate professionally and effectively (orally and in writing) within SDE and with outside parties and customers.
  • Technical knowledge and experience directly related to district energy, power generation systems including mechanical, electrical, civil, structural and industrial technical disciplines.
  • Proactively conduct safety audits of generation building and equipment inspections at Toromont and customer sites.

Responsibilities

  • Operation and Maintenance of SDE energy assets in accordance with the qualifications of an Operating Engineer – Fourth Class;
  • Preparation and implementation of plant optimization strategy;
  • Execute Ontario Power Authority and Sudbury Hydro Operations Agreements;
  • Execute Thermal Customer Energy Services Agreements;
  • Plant energy, performance monitoring and activity reporting;
  • Demonstrating safe work practices consistent with Company Health & Safety Program and Plant Operating Standards/TSSA.
  • Ensure proper execution, servicing and support of Thermal Customer Energy Services Agreements.
  • Proactively ensure ongoing maintenance of assigned properties as outlined and as directed by supervisor.
  • Professionally represent Toromont Energy at all times to customers, external parties and demonstrate positive, professional presence within the SDE team.
