About The Position

The Plant Nurse plays a critical role within our poultry processing facility, responsible for providing medical care, promoting health and safety practices, and ensuring the well-being of employees within the plant environment. As a Plant Nurse, you will be tasked with handling medical emergencies, conducting health assessments, implementing health programs, and collaborating with management to maintain a healthy and safe work environment.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the state of practice.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required.
  • Experience in occupational health, emergency care, or industrial nursing preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications and electronic health record systems.
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and practices.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure during medical emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the administrative and operational activities of occupational health services, including assuring compliance with regulatory requirements (Bloodborne Pathogens, SHARPs), managing pre-employment drug testing and medical questionnaires, securing and developing records, equipment, and programs, ordering medical supplies, maintaining accurate and confidential medical records, and generating reports on injury trends, health assessments, and program effectiveness.
  • Provide immediate medical care to employees in case of accidents, injuries, or sudden illnesses, assess and stabilize patients during medical emergencies, administer first aid treatments and medications, and coordinate with external medical services.
  • Provide or manage physical evaluation programs and services to meet regulatory requirements (OSHA, Department of Transportation), educate employees on ergonomic issues, manage the company’s Drug-Free Workplace Program, manage annual audiometric testing, provide accident investigation reports, manage workers' compensation, short-term disability, FMLA, and LOA cases, assess healthcare needs and implement programs, assist departments with accommodations and return to work options, and collaborate with Safety Director and Human Resources Manager on injury prevention.
  • Collaborate with Plant Management, Human Resources, and Safety to address health and safety concerns, communicate effectively with employees regarding health-related policies, and serve as a liaison between the plant and external healthcare providers.
