About The Position

Calpine, a business unit of Constellation Energy Corporation, is America's largest generator of electricity from natural gas and geothermal resources. The Plant Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations and maintenance of a single plant facility, including managing, directing, planning, and coordinating total power plant operations. This role monitors plan performance, corrects abnormalities, and has overall human resources responsibility for supervisory leadership, operations and maintenance personnel, and all sub-contractors. The position involves hiring and terminating employees, setting maintenance schedules, conducting routine maintenance, and managing ongoing training programs. The Plant Manager also manages plant business and budget issues with home office interface, proposes and implements equipment modifications and plant improvements, and maintains all plant procedures, site policies, training and safety programs, and work practices. Ensuring safe and efficient operations, regulatory compliance, and community relations are key aspects of this role, including local interactions with customers such as steam hosts and utilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Previous work leadership experience including a minimum of 5 years supervisory/managerial experience.
  • Typically requires minimum of 10+ years with a detailed understanding of electrical generation power plants, including startup, operations, and maintenance of power plant equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the overall operations and maintenance of a single plant facility with an operational focus.
  • Manages employees performing related duties including full human resources, cost and budgetary accountabilities.
  • Provide leadership to all plant personnel by reviewing and updating policies and procedures to align with facility objectives, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices, while maintaining consistent on-site presence.
  • Identify training objectives and employee development needs, providing coaching and professional development opportunities to sustain morale, technical proficiency, and operational readiness.
  • Foster a strong safety culture across a fast-start, multi-unit generation facility, promoting hazard awareness, personal accountability, and adherence to safety standards for all personnel and contractors.
  • Receives assignments in the form of objectives and determines tactical approach, resources, schedules, and goals.
  • Works within general guidelines; applies advanced technical knowledge to solve moderately complex problems for a function.
  • Manages a single function or portion of a department.
  • Regularly manages large-scale projects/activities or a very closely related set of projects/activities.
  • Responsible for performance reviews, promotional decisions, and pay actions for support and professional levels.
