About The Position

The Plant Manager – Sheldon serves as the senior operational leader for the facility and is accountable for the safe, efficient, and reliable performance of the operation. This role oversees all aspects of the site’s performance, including operations, safety, workforce leadership, financial results, and customer service. The Plant Manager ensures that the facility operates with clear priorities, disciplined routines, and consistent execution across all shifts. This position is well suited for a leader who values operational ownership, strong team engagement, and the consistent delivery of customer commitments in a complex industrial environment. Within the Marmon operating model, Plant Managers are expected to lead their facilities with a strong sense of ownership, balancing local decision-making with enterprise alignment to deliver safe, reliable performance for customers.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in heavy industrial, manufacturing, or technical service operations
  • Experience leading multi-shift operations with responsibility for safety, workforce leadership, and operational performance
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and deliver consistent operational results in complex environments
  • Experience in regulated repair or maintenance environments such as rail, automotive, heavy equipment, aerospace, or energy services is highly valued
  • A bachelor’s degree is preferred, though equivalent operational leadership experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Provides overall leadership for the Sheldon facility and its operations, including railcar repair, cleaning, coating/paint, inspection, safety performance, and workforce management.
  • Working closely with supervisors and support functions, establishes clear operating rhythms that align production priorities with customer commitments.
  • Through visible leadership on the shop floor, reinforces consistent standards of safety, quality, and operational discipline across all shifts.
  • Serves as the primary operational contact for customers and works to ensure that service commitments are met with reliability and professionalism.
  • Maintains a strong presence in the operation and engages directly with supervisors and employees to ensure priorities are clearly understood and executed.
  • Creates an environment where supervisors and frontline employees are equipped to make sound operational decisions.
  • Focuses on building clarity, capability, and accountability throughout the organization so that problems are addressed at the appropriate level and operational discipline becomes part of the daily routine.
  • Ensures clear expectations, preparation, and consistent follow-through are essential to maintaining safe operations and delivering predictable results for customers.
