About The Position

The Plant Manager III, Material Recovery Facility (MRF) ensures the highest standards of environmental safety and operational excellence by effectively managing the day-to-day operations of the assigned MRF and maintains cost management within the MRF. The successful candidate is a visible, hands-on leader who thrives under pressure, makes sound real-time decisions, and drives a strong culture of accountability, employee engagement, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (accredited), or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and 4 years of relevant work experience.
  • 7 years of relevant work experience (in addition to education requirement)
  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to inspire and influence teams
  • Calm and decisive under pressure, with strong problem-solving ability
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Data-driven mindset with strong analytical capabilities
  • High level of ownership, accountability, and integrity

  • Experience leading a team of 3-4 salaried employees including supervisors (as well as above required experience and education)

Responsibilities

  • Ensures smooth operation of site, including: gatehouse, sorting, loading.
  • Ensures system is performing at highest level
  • Minimizes handling and operational costs.
  • Continually works to reduce turnaround time for trucks in and out of site.
  • Regularly proposes means of operational improvement.
  • Acts as a liaison, where necessary, for community relationships and customers.
  • Oversee and manage WM contractual obligations
  • Complies with and ensures adherence to WM’s Mission to Zero standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient operations.
  • Submits reasonable budget information and analyzes data versus year-to-date data and prior year budget.
  • Assists in creating a positive team-oriented environment through employee development and motivation.
  • Ensures the cleanliness and maintenance of the physical property of the MRF through inspections and preventive maintenance programs with supervisors/employees.
  • Oversees personnel needs of the MRF including selecting, coaching, and training employees and evaluating employee performance. Provides input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
  • Conducts and/or attends and contributes to periodic safety meetings.
  • Provides training and presentations as needed in a positive and professional manner.
  • Updates and submits required reports in a timely manner.
  • Identify and eliminate waste to improve flow, reduce downtime, and optimize labor and equipment utilization
  • Lead problem-solving initiatives using structured methodologies.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement with measurable results
  • Build, coach, and develop supervisors and frontline teams
  • Set clear expectations and hold teams accountable for performance and behavior
  • Foster a positive, engaged, and high-performing work environment
  • Motivate teams during high-pressure situations while maintaining focus and discipline
