About The Position

At Novolex in Athens, GA, the Plant Maintenance Mechanic will apply their talent across injection molding, extrusion, thermoforming, and flexographic printing—keeping vital packaging equipment safe, reliable, and efficient. This role is crucial for preventing downtime and elevating performance by ensuring consistent quality through maintenance and repairs. Employment is contingent on passing the Ramsay Mechanical Aptitude Test.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years in industrial maintenance with strong troubleshooting skills
  • Successful completion of the Ramsay Mechanical Aptitude Test
  • Ability to read/interpret mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic prints and schematics
  • Hands-on experience across: Mechanical (gears, pulleys, chains, belts, shafts, gearboxes, pumps, air compressors; HVAC experience a plus), Electrical (AC/DC motors/drives, 480V 3-phase, transformers, control power, relays), Pneumatic, Hydraulic, and Electronic systems (PLC/ladder logic; C programming a plus)
  • Welding (TIG and Stick) and basic machining (mill, lathe, grinder, saw, drill) a plus
  • Self-motivated with solid attendance and the ability to prioritize independently
  • Physically able to stand 8 hours, lift up to 50 lbs frequently, and wear PPE

  • HVAC experience a plus
  • C programming a plus
  • Welding (TIG and Stick) and basic machining (mill, lathe, grinder, saw, drill) a plus

Responsibilities

  • Own preventive maintenance: change oils and lubricants; check compressors, power supplies, and batteries; inspect belts, drives, and conveyors; replace filters; document results
  • Troubleshoot and repair using diagnostics, manuals, blueprints, and parts catalogs; then reassemble and validate to factory specifications
  • Install, pipe, and commission machinery and building systems for production lines and presses
  • Weld and cut (MIG/Arc); perform light fabrication, basic carpentry, and plumbing (threading/soldering)
  • Measure and adjust with precision instruments, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges
  • Maintain an organized maintenance area and ensure tools/equipment are cleaned, lubricated, and service-ready
  • Champion safety by wearing required PPE—hairnet, earplugs, gloves, apron, safety glasses, steel-toed shoes—and following all procedures
