About The Position

Wieland is hiring a Plant Maintenance Mechanic II. The Plant Maintenance Mechanic II is part of a team that is responsible for maintaining and managing the processing equipment that is utilized in recycling ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The Plant Maintenance Mechanic II uses extensive knowledge in Preventive and Predictive Maintenance practices to drive continuous improvement in machine reliability. Applies diagnostic, troubleshooting skills, and experience to perform repairs, preventative maintenance, and safety inspections on plant equipment. This role is located in Granite City, IL, and will be fully on-site.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Three (3) years’ experience in maintenance with proficiency in knowledge and demonstrated skills in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. Corrective/breakdown experience preferred. Ability to diagnose problems and replace parts to repair.
  • Experience in maintaining Industrial Equipment
  • Valid Driver’s License with insurance and ability to maintain a valid driver’s license is required. Clean driving record with no citations for moving violations in the previous three years.
  • Demonstrated ability to use hand and power tools commonly used in electrical, electronic, and mechanical trades. Be able to provide a small box of basic hand tools
  • Demonstrate mechanical aptitude and problems with ability to deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only a limited standardization exists.
  • Able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, and schedule form.
  • Able to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
  • Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to OSHA
  • Experience with process improvement, safety, quality, and 5S ideas.
  • Works in a team environment or independently, but must be a critical thinker, problem solver, and a self-starter.
  • Ability to effectively communicate effectively both orally and in writing to teammates and leader.
  • Sufficient education to read documents and/or written directives, make appropriate arithmetic equations, and complete written documentation.
  • Work within team environments to accomplish uptime goals and budget targets
  • A willingness to learn new tasks
  • Be self-motivated, responsible, and willing to work within the strict safety guidelines of the company's safety policy
  • Forklift certification is required

  • Stand for extended periods, walk, and reach with hands or arms.
  • Use hands and fingers to handle, touch, or manipulate items.
  • Stoop, reach, kneel, twist, and walk while handling cases of product.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently.

Responsibilities

  • Under minimal supervision, provides preventative and predictive maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of recycling production systems.
  • Adheres to all applicable safety standards and promotes a safe work environment by attending safety meetings and required trainings and addressing all safety concerns while following the Wieland Safety Golden Rules.
  • Ability to utilize the Equipment Asset Management (EAM) system to enter and retrieve prescribed data.
  • Complex skills required in diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and/or hydraulic systems. May rely on higher-level technicians in complex systems issues.
  • Perform scheduled inspection, basic and advanced preventative and predictive maintenance on equipment to ensure production teams are able to meet goals for up-time and budget targets.
  • Accurately completes maintenance records, logs, permits, and required documentation.
  • May begin to assist lower-level Preventive Maintenance Technicians.
  • Actively engages and participates in the department’s continuous improvement efforts. Demonstrates behaviors and attitudes that emphasize and focus on permanent resolutions to problems.
  • Have a general understanding of how to use basic tools
  • Assist in set up and installation of new equipment
  • Help maintain inventory of equipment and supplies. Work with the maintenance planner to maintain the proper Min/Max of supplies and consumables
  • Follows and adheres to all ISO, OSHA, and DEQ requirements.
