About The Position

Join the City of Saginaw and put your electrical expertise to work maintaining the critical systems that keep our water treatment plant operating safely and efficiently. As a Plant Maintenance Electrician II, you'll perform highly skilled electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation on a wide variety of plant equipment while helping ensure reliable service for our community.

Requirements

• High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
• 5 years’ work experience in the maintenance, repair, installation, and calibration of medium voltage electrical and computerized equipment.
• Possession of a journeyman electrician’s license recognized by the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity is required.
• Must possess a valid Michigan driver's license.
• Must possess strong mechanical aptitude and have a good understanding of hydraulic and electrical principles.
• Knowledge of electrical and electronic terms and the National Electrical Code.
• Knowledge of telemetry systems.
• Must demonstrate knowledge of preventive maintenance and safety procedures.
• Willingness to be trained on computer data entry for inventory and preventative maintenance program.
• Attendance records acceptable to management.
• Strong electrical troubleshooting and repair skills
• Experience with industrial electrical systems, motors, controls, and instrumentation
• The ability to interpret electrical schematics and technical manuals
• A commitment to safety, teamwork, and dependable public service

Nice To Haves

• Experience with programmable controllers and the use of "ladder logic" preferred.
• Must be willing to learn Allen-Bradley or similar systems programming procedures.
• Experience in computer use and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems is desired.
• Experience in lead worker responsibilities is desired.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair motors, electrical equipment, and computerized control systems
• Work with medium-voltage switchgear (up to 4,160 volts) and transformers
• Install, calibrate, and troubleshoot electrical and instrumentation systems
• Read, revise, and update electrical schematics
• Assist with system improvements alongside engineers and outside service technicians
• Fabricate replacement parts for outdated equipment and systems
• Track electrical repairs and help maintain reliable plant operations
• Serve as a lead worker and provide guidance to maintenance staff when needed
• Respond during emergencies to manually operate pumping stations when required
