About The Position

This role involves ensuring compliance with all plant administrative rules, operating procedures, and safety regulations. The Plant Laborer will assist with various tasks including banding trams, serving as a crewman for equipment operators, preparing banding materials, operating conveyor systems and tie processing equipment, and performing preventive maintenance. Additionally, the position includes ground and building maintenance, waste disposal, and assisting with track repair and switch lubrication. The role also emphasizes adherence to Safety, Health, and Environmental (SH&E) regulations, prompt reporting of incidents and unsafe conditions, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintaining housekeeping standards. This includes cleaning up spills, handling hazardous waste, and working safely around hazardous materials.

Requirements

  • Pass preemployment medical screening.
  • Qualified as a powered industrial equipment operator.
  • Trained as authorized personnel and/or affected personnel for lockout/tagout.
  • Demonstrates acceptable retention level for the required training elements.
  • Trained to handle hazardous waste.

Responsibilities

  • Complies with all plant administrative rules.
  • Complies with all applicable operating procedures.
  • Obeys the plant safety rules.
  • Assists in banding trams.
  • Serves as crewman to loader or lift truck operators as required.
  • Signals equipment operators to deposit material in designated areas.
  • Prepares banding wire or banding strips and bands trams as required.
  • Operates conveyor systems used in conjunction with tie processing equipment.
  • Operates tie processing equipment as directed.
  • Assists in performing preventive maintenance as required.
  • Performs ground and building maintenance.
  • Collects and disposes of yard waste material.
  • Assists in repair of tracks and oils and greases switches and joints.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all SH&E regulations and corporate and plant SH&E policies and procedures.
  • Promptly and properly reports all incidents, injuries, damages, spills and/or releases.
  • Promptly reports and, if possible, corrects all unsafe acts and/or conditions.
  • Wears personal protective equipment (PPE) required by the applicable PPE hazard assessments (including restricted use pesticide PPE requirements).
  • Completes all SH&E inspections assigned by management.
  • Performs required housekeeping activities.
  • Cleans up drippage from drip tracks and places hazardous waste into proper containers.
  • Cleans up drippage in Treated Wood Storage Yard.
  • Works safely with and around hazardous materials/hazardous waste.
