About The Position

This role involves various duties within a plant environment, focusing on operational procedures, safety, and maintenance. The Plant Laborer is responsible for adhering to all plant rules, operating procedures, and safety regulations. Key tasks include assisting with banding trams, serving as a crewman for equipment operators, signaling for material placement, preparing and applying banding, operating conveyor systems and tie processing equipment, and assisting with preventive maintenance. Additionally, the role encompasses ground and building maintenance, waste disposal, track repair, and lubrication of switches and joints. The position also requires strict adherence to Safety, Health & Environmental (SH&E) regulations, prompt reporting of incidents and hazards, proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), completion of SH&E inspections, and maintaining housekeeping standards, including hazardous waste management. Requirements

  • Pass preemployment medical screening.
  • Qualified as a powered industrial equipment operator.
  • Trained as authorized personnel and/or affected personnel for lockout/tagout.
  • Demonstrates acceptable retention level for the required training elements.
  • Trained to handle hazardous waste.

Responsibilities

  • Complies with all plant administrative rules.
  • Complies with all applicable operating procedures.
  • Obeys the plant safety rules.
  • Assists in banding trams.
  • Serves as crewman to loader or lift truck operators.
  • Signals equipment operators to deposit material in designated areas.
  • Prepares banding wire or banding strips and bands trams as required.
  • Operates conveyor systems used in conjunction with tie processing equipment.
  • Operates tie processing equipment as directed.
  • Assists in performing preventive maintenance.
  • Performs ground and building maintenance.
  • Collects and disposes of yard waste material.
  • Assists in repair of tracks and oils and greases switches and joints.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all SH&E regulations and corporate and plant SH&E policies and procedures.
  • Promptly and properly reports all incidents, injuries, damages, spills and/or releases.
  • Promptly reports and, if possible, corrects all unsafe acts and/or conditions.
  • Wears personal protective equipment (PPE) required by the applicable PPE hazard assessments (including restricted use pesticide PPE requirements).
  • Completes all SH&E inspections assigned by management.
  • Performs required housekeeping activities.
  • Cleans up drippage from drip tracks and places hazardous waste into proper containers.
  • Cleans up drippage in Treated Wood Storage Yard.
  • Works safely with and around hazardous materials/hazardous waste.
