About The Position

The Plant Health Care (PHC) Technician is responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, and treating trees and shrubs to promote overall plant health and vitality. This position involves the application of fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, soil amendments, and other treatments while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards. The PHC Technician works closely with customers and operations teams to identify plant health issues and provide effective treatment solutions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required pesticide applicator licenses/certifications.
  • Basic knowledge of tree and shrub species, pests, diseases, and plant health care practices.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
  • Knowledge of tree biology, plant health care principles, and integrated pest management (IPM).
  • Ability to identify common tree and shrub pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies.
  • Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to safely handle and apply chemicals in accordance with regulations.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to read and understand product labels, SDS sheets, and treatment plans.
  • Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, and climb throughout the workday.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 75 pounds occasionally with assistance.
  • Work outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and humidity.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, gloves, eye protection, and protective clothing.
  • Ability to operate vehicles, spray rigs, application equipment, and hand tools.
  • Ability to traverse uneven terrain, slopes, and wooded areas safely.
  • Ability to perform repetitive movements involving hands, arms, and shoulders.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in arboriculture, landscaping, horticulture, agriculture, or plant health care.
  • ISA Certified Arborist certification.
  • State pesticide applicator license.
  • CDL or ability to obtain one.
  • Experience operating spray equipment and application systems.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and evaluate trees, shrubs, and landscape plants for signs of disease, insects, nutrient deficiencies, and environmental stress.
  • Perform plant health care treatments including fertilization, soil injections, root collar excavations, pest management, and disease control applications.
  • Mix and apply pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and fertilizers according to label requirements and company standards.
  • Operate spray equipment, injection systems, skid steers, utility vehicles, and other equipment associated with PHC services.
  • Maintain accurate records of treatments performed, products used, and customer recommendations.
  • Monitor treatment effectiveness and make recommendations for follow-up services.
  • Communicate professionally with customers regarding treatment plans, plant health concerns, and service recommendations.
  • Conduct site assessments and identify potential safety hazards before beginning work.
  • Maintain equipment, tools, and vehicles in safe operating condition.
  • Follow all company, OSHA, DOT, and environmental regulations.
  • Assist with tree care operations and other duties as assigned.
