About The Position

The Plant Finance Manager oversees all financial forecasting and planning activities within the operations function at a leading life sciences organization. This role supports the division’s financial reporting process, leads local finance initiatives related to operations, and conducts economic analyses of operational finances. The manager provides clear financial insights to both local and global leadership teams, drives process improvements, and ensures the accuracy, compliance, and timeliness of operational financial information.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Cost Accounting.
  • 3+ years of experience in cost accounting and standard cost work in a manufacturing plant environment.
  • 6–8 years of overall accounting and finance experience.
  • Experience managing and developing a team of accounting and finance professionals.
  • Strong cost accounting skills, including detailed knowledge of standard costs in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong FP&A skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Strong inventory accounting skills under the standard cost method.
  • Proficiency in cost analysis, variance analysis, and cash flow analysis, including discounted cash flow, ROI, and payback.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience with general ledger, financial statements, balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, and fixed asset accounting.
  • Experience in operational finance within a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to report financial information clearly to different stakeholders and hierarchy levels.
  • Strong communication, planning, and presentation skills, including the ability to present to management.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to organize, prioritize, and oversee team tasks.
  • Ability to work independently in a timely and accurate manner while managing multiple priorities.
  • Broad understanding of accounting areas including cost accounting, distribution, sales and marketing, and R&D.
  • Excellent understanding of accounting within a global organization, including foreign exchange, inter-company mark-ups, inter-company charges and allocations, and tax-related considerations.
  • Proficiency with standard desktop software, including Excel (pivot tables), PowerPoint, and databases.
  • Experience with fully integrated ERP systems.
  • Ability to identify and take ownership of significant issues and drive them to resolution.
  • Results orientation, strategic thinking, and change management capabilities.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA, CMA, and/or MBA preferred.
  • Experience with SAP or other major ERP systems is beneficial.
  • Experience with Oracle Cloud is highly welcomed.
  • Experience in process improvement and continuous improvement initiatives in finance.
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with global finance teams, management outside of finance, and executive leadership.
  • Ability to develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and financial metrics.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and distribute budget guidelines and submission templates for functional leaders.
  • Establish and communicate timelines for budget data submissions and related presentations.
  • Review initial budget submissions for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with corporate objectives.
  • Prepare and present the annual budget for the operational site to local and global leadership.
  • Collaborate with regional teams in finance and other functions to resolve planning and forecasting issues.
  • Review and analyze monthly forecast submissions, comparing them to actual results, plans, and prior forecasts.
  • Provide consolidated monthly forecast updates and commentary to site management.
  • Prepare and present financial projections and scenario analyses as needed.
  • Assist in creating financial reports to meet internal and external reporting requirements.
  • Compile monthly reporting packages and provide insightful commentary on site performance.
  • Oversee the collection, processing, consolidation, and reporting of financial results for the site.
  • Stay current with changes in reporting standards and accounting practices and incorporate them into site processes.
  • Develop and monitor the financial aspects of the site’s strategic plan.
  • Communicate monthly financial results to management and recommend improvements when necessary.
  • Organize and prioritize tasks for the finance team, ensuring high-quality and timely output.
  • Evaluate and propose cost reduction opportunities for the site and track their impact.
  • Prepare materials and coordinate meetings with cost committees.
  • Participate in and promote financial initiatives within cost committees.
  • Conduct cost variance analyses at the site level and explain key drivers.
  • Track and report on the progress of savings initiatives and operational efficiency projects.
  • Support management by ensuring compliance and accuracy in regular financial reporting.
  • Develop and report on key financial metrics to assist in assessing business performance.
  • Supervise the calculation and analysis of key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Lead the development, enhancement, and maintenance of financial reporting systems and processes.
  • Undertake special financial projects and ad hoc analyses as assigned by leadership.
  • Lead, manage, and develop a team of accounting and finance professionals, delegating and distributing assignments effectively.
  • Make concise, effective, and professional presentations to management and other stakeholders.
  • Identify significant financial or operational issues as they arise and take ownership in driving resolution.
