About The Position

As a Plant Engineering Intern, you’ll be a valued member of the Atura Power Plant Engineering Team located at our Oakville head office. This is a great opportunity to join the team which provides engineering support to the facilities including operational issue troubleshooting, outage support, and implementation of business improvement projects. Our team is responsible for the implementation of world class operating and maintenance strategies, programs, systems, processes, and tools to existing power assets in collaboration with the operation and maintenance departments. During your internship, you will be exposed to Atura's entire portfolio of power generation assets, several engineering functions, and the programs utilized to manage them. The primary function of this role is to provide support to the team of plant engineers as required and described in the responsibilities below.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in a Canadian Accredited Engineering Program (mechanical or electrical discipline preferred)
  • You must be legally entitled to work in Canada by way of Canadian Citizenship, Permanent Residency or a valid work permit which would allow you to work for Atura Power
  • Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, Outlook and Visio (or similar spreadsheet, database, and e-mail software) is required
  • Intermediate working knowledge of AutoCad and Solidworks (or similar drafting/modelling software)
  • Have and maintain a valid G driver's license
  • Use of a personal vehicle as Atura’s sites are not accessible via public transit.

Nice To Haves

  • Power generation industry experience
  • Familiarity and interest in mechanical and/or electrical equipment used in power generation
  • Possible software used: Microsoft Power Automate, Power BI, SharePoint
  • VBA – Visual Basic programming skill for Applications such as MS Excel
  • AutoCAD, Solidworks
  • C++, JAVA
  • MS Office (Excel, Word, Visio, PowerPoint)
  • Maximo

Responsibilities

  • Generate, revise, or update engineering documentation (e.g. drawings, sketches, reports, specifications, etc.)
  • Analyze and assess drawing accuracy thru review of available information and conducting field walk-downs, if required
  • Provide engineering support for the planning and execution of plant outages, overhauls, and other capital projects which may include: generating technical specifications consistent with company standards under the supervision of plant and/or system engineers; providing oversight of 3rd party contractors performing maintenance or project work to ensure compliance with company requirements; generating outage status reports to capture activities completed, work planned, issues with their resolutions, action items, and other relevant information
  • Travel up to 20%
  • Coordinate with 3rd party consultants performing engineering work (e.g. studies, design modifications) in collaboration with plant and/or system engineers
  • Travel (up to 20%) to facilities to aid plant engineers, system engineers, and project managers with engineering and project work
  • Generate, compile and report (e.g. create Power BI dashboards) on various datasets (e.g. plant operational data, report findings / recommendations); analyze, assess and make recommendations using the data as required by the business
  • Build, troubleshoot, and maintain automated workflows using Microsoft Power Automate
  • Collect and validate operational and testing data for reporting and data analysis
  • Assist in maintaining and updating Asset Management Governance documentation (e.g. policies, procedures, quick reference guides, etc.) supporting continuous improvement
  • Convene and lead meetings as required to accomplish role responsibilities
  • Evaluate new technologies, studies, reports from EPRI and other industry user groups for applicability to the business
  • Ensure relevant documentation is retained in accordance with company expectations including drawings, reference manuals, and other related information
  • Follow company procedures including Practice of Engineering, Management of Change, and Project Management
  • Gain exposure to the power generation industry
  • Perform other related duties as business needs arise and your skills / interests align
