About The Position

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Plant Engineer will manage projects from conception and design to fabrication and commissioning. Typical projects would include infrastructure upgrades and improvements to systems that support production enhancement of quality or quantity. The Plant Engineer has a primary function to provide technical leadership to optimize cost, quality, productivity and reliability. This includes leading teams in continuous improvement activities to achieve and sustain results in the areas of Engineering as well as being accountable to research, develop and implement tasks, methodologies and best practices for the Company.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years progressive industrial production experience (crushing, screening, or mining experience an asset)
  • Bachelor of Engineering degree or similar or a suitable combination of experience and education
  • Excellent time and project management, organizational, production planning, scheduling, and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated initiative and proven record of taking on projects in a proactive manner to reach strategic outcomes
  • Established PC & software skills in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.)
  • Exhibits values of integrity, respect for others, teamwork, collaboration and accountability

Responsibilities

  • Oversee design, construction, modification and maintenance of equipment, machinery and facilities. Includes supervision of installation contractors or maintenance personnel
  • Assist Quarry operations (including blasting and quarry development), ensures sufficient rock inventory for production. Includes supervision of ~5 contractors
  • Work with Quarry engineer on dump operations including managing production waste removal and ensuring dump construction compliance to design. Includes supervision of 3 contactors
  • Installation and commissioning of new production equipment and processes
  • Troubleshoot and improve existing processes
  • Providing technical leadership and defining and resolving process problems through individual and team-based continuous improvement activities and structured problem solving methods
  • Provides engineering oversight to the facility infrastructure (boilers, HVAC, compressed air, power transmission etc.)
  • Implements project improvements that drive manufacturing performance in efficiency, waste reduction, cost reduction, and quality
  • Making observations and taking measurements directly, as well as collecting and interpreting data from the other technical and operating staff involved in order to develop and implement process improvements
  • Establishes standards and policies to reduce environmental impact
  • Implementing engineering controls to improve health and safety
  • Facilitating government inspections and ensuring code compliance
  • Equipment acquisition
  • Prepares tendering documents and contracts for external sourcing
  • Performs other duties as assigned
