This SkillBridge opportunity is for servicemembers seeking practical experience supporting utility-scale electric power generation facilities. The Plant Engineering Intern works alongside senior engineers and experienced plant personnel on real engineering projects involving the planning, operation, maintenance, and improvement of mechanical and electrical systems that support turbine generators and auxiliary plant equipment at the McIntosh, Larsen Memorial, and Winston Power Plants. Depending on the intern’s engineering degree and professional background, training may also include chemical engineering systems or control system engineering. The flexible training structure is intended to develop engineers with diverse technical skills that support safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. The position develops project scopes and supports engineering design, studies, project management, quality control, budgeting, schedules, technical reporting, and coordination across utility departments and with contractors. Work may include plant equipment testing and operation, construction oversight, field inspections, analysis of plant operating and maintenance issues, and compliance support. The position may require meetings and site visits away from the primary work location, alternate hours as needed for efficient departmental operation, and work in office, power plant, outdoor, and construction-site environments. The position is mission critical. Applicants must meet one of the listed education and experience combinations: a Master of Science degree in Engineering and two years of electric utility engineering experience, or a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering and four years of electric utility engineering experience. A résumé is required for consideration. A valid driver’s license is required.
