About The Position

Responsible for operating and maintaining daily plant operations within the hospital. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Educational Development (G.E.D.) required.
  • 1 – 2 years previous experience in steam plant operations required.
  • 1 – 2 years previous experience in HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) required.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and utility systems in buildings required.
  • Strong verbal communication skills for positive interaction with staff and customers required.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Able to read, write, and comprehend various written reports and documents required.
  • Requires the ability to provide transportation to other campus and/or work related locations within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Third Grade Engineers License required at assigned facilities.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 – 2 years experience in troubleshooting equipment in mechanical or electrical fields preferred.
  • 1 year previous experience in hospital plant operations preferred.
  • Knowledge of hospital plant operations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operates boilers, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, water treatment systems and testing, medical air and vacuum systems, medical gases, compressors, and refrigeration systems and equipment by following manufacturer and department policies and procedures to ensure a safe, comfortable healthcare environment.
  • Operates and tests the Emergency Generator and Transfer Switch System in accordance with Joint Commission Standards to ensure essential electrical functions during emergencies and outages.
  • Operates Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems, building automation systems, refrigeration monitoring systems, patient care systems, and all support equipment systems by following manufacturer's specifications to ensure a comfortable, health environment for Health System facilities.
  • Performs scheduled maintenance and emergency repairs of environmental control equipment and patient care systems by following maintenance schedules and specifications to ensure operational status when needed.
  • Performs and documents scheduled equipment inspection rounds throughout the shift to ensure complete and accurate data for maintenance control.
  • Performs water testing to determine chemical levels in various systems by using standard test methods and treating systems according to test results to ensure water meets established requirements.
  • Maintains appropriate inventory of parts and supplies by using departmental inventory control procedures to ensure timely and cost efficient maintenance and repair activities.
  • Monitors and documents all work tasks to ensure complete and accurate data for maintenance management control.
  • Establishes good working relations with staff members, patient families, supervisors, vendors, and contractors to ensure excellent customer service.
