About The Position

Southern Nuclear is seeking engineers for various roles across their fleet, including system engineers, program engineers, component engineers, design engineers, reactor engineers, control I&C or digital design engineers, and cyber security engineers or analysts. These positions are located at Plant Farley (near Dothan, AL), Plant Hatch (Baxley, GA), and Plant Vogtle 1&2 and 3&4 (near Augusta, GA). Engineers will be responsible for ensuring system reliability, solving problems, providing technical support, planning improvements, implementing programs, preparing designs and calculations, and potentially managing special projects. Opportunities for developmental assignments in operations, maintenance, training, or quality assurance are available, preparing engineers for supervisory and management roles. Engineering assignments typically include on-call duty engineer and emergency plan response requirements.

Requirements

  • BS in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution or PE License required.
  • A background in engineering with working knowledge of applicable discipline codes, standards and regulatory requirements related to the nuclear power industry.
  • An ability to solve problems and make sound engineering decisions, based on experience and appropriate industry practices, in order to make timely decisions which might impact plant safety and reliability.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven organizational skills with ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Capable of working efficiently and effectively across organizations.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft office products, specifically WORD, EXCEL and POWERPOINT.

Nice To Haves

  • PE License desired
  • 3 years of engineering experience preferred
  • Previous experience in systems engineering, programs engineering, component engineering and design engineering preferred.
  • Working knowledge in PWR or BWR Systems, structures and components preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the reliability of assigned plant systems.
  • Solve system and component problems.
  • Provide direct technical support for operation and maintenance.
  • Plan long-term performance improvements.
  • Direct implementation of assigned programs and work processes.
  • Prepare/coordinate designs, calculations, drawings, cost estimates and schedules for plant modifications and retrofits.
  • Perform field walk downs for constructability and some construction coordination.
  • Perform fuel inspections and specify fuel movement determinations.
  • Perform physics testing.
  • Support operations in control rod movements.
  • Conduct surveillance testing of reactor core.
  • Lead spent fuel audits.
  • Perform reactor engineering calculations.
  • Ensure configuration changes to the design of digital systems are high quality, budgeted, planned, scheduled, and implemented in a cost-effective manner.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, perform engineering studies, develop cost estimates for design changes, review vendor correspondence, perform conceptual design studies, perform design changes, perform design bases maintenance, perform equivalency determinations, and monitor/provide technical recommendations and Long-Range Planning for assigned digital systems and components.
  • Provide technical leadership, execution, guidance, and monitoring of the Cyber Security Program.
  • Maintain programmatic aspects for site digital assets while interfacing with several departments.
  • Manage special projects.
  • Take key refueling outage assignments.
  • Perform on-call duty engineer responsibilities.
  • Fulfill emergency plan response requirements.
