About The Position

As the Plant Engineer you will be responsible for all environmental emissions compliance and reporting, permitting activities, and safety training at Nelson Energy Center. This position reports to the Plant Manager and is part of a management team that is responsible for the safe, efficient, fiscally sound and environmentally conscientious operation and maintenance of the facility, including all supporting properties and equipment. About the Site Nelson Energy Center is a nominal 600 MW combined cycle power generation facility using GE’s 7FA gas turbine platform. The facility is located in Rock Falls, Illinois.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. Preferable in electrical, mechanical, controls or environmental engineering.
  • Ability to learn and use key programs for evaluating plant performance.
  • Ability to handle daily communication of expectations, provide feedback and work collaboratively with plant staff.
  • High degree of flexibility and the capacity to work in a rapidly changing and ambiguous environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite programs.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, and very strong interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Five (5) years experience with a strong working knowledge of power plant operations and maintenance is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.
  • This is a safety sensitive position. Individuals receiving conditional offers of employment will be subject to drug testing and must receive a negative result to begin working for the company.

Nice To Haves

  • 7FA combined cycle and/or combustion turbine experience including LTSA experience is preferred.
  • Distributed Control Systems (DCS) skills to include troubleshooting and an in depth understanding of control system logic is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ownership of all plant permits, sampling and testing requirements associated with these permits, and reporting to the applicable regulators.
  • Interaction with local, state and federal regulators to resolve permit issues.
  • Perform engineering analysis and develops recommendations to improve or maintain generating plant efficiency, reliability, safety and cost performance.
  • Administer HRSG/Steam Piping code (ASME/ANSI) repair program.
  • Administer natural gas pipeline reliability, safety and compliance program.
  • Develop and administer the in-house training of plant personnel on required gas pipeline safety.
  • Monitor and evaluate plant performance and initiates corrective action (plant performance monitoring).
  • Administer plant performance testing and compile results.
  • Provide technical support to contractors and the station staff as needed to address technical problems and support operations/outage planning and scheduling activities.
  • Act as administrator for the station technical library files and effectively manage these support systems.
  • Provide input to the Plant Manager on all combined cycle technical issues including CT, ST and HRSG equipment.
  • To act in the capacity of the Duty Manager in rotation with other management staff.
