About The Position

The Senior Plant Engineer provides engineering leadership, technical expertise, and project execution support across site infrastructure and capital initiatives. This role is responsible for defining, planning, and executing small to medium capital projects while supporting maintenance, reliability, and continuous improvement of Site Services Utilities. The Senior Plant Engineer works independently to deliver engineering solutions aligned with site objectives, regulatory expectations, and Evonik standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required
  • 5–10 years of experience in plant engineering, utilities, and/or project execution
  • Strong knowledge of plant design, maintenance practices, and project management
  • Experience in chemical or pharmaceutical operations preferred
  • Proven problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to influence without direct authority

Responsibilities

  • Lead small to medium capital projects through scope development, design, construction, commissioning, qualification, and startup
  • Ensure project delivery meets safety, cost, quality, and schedule expectations
  • Manage change controls, develop engineering documentation, and execute system qualification activities
  • Provide day-to-day engineering support for utilities systems (e.g., steam, water, HVAC, power distribution, and supporting infrastructure)
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and perform root cause failure analysis
  • Develop and implement maintenance strategies to improve reliability and lifecycle performance
  • Support maintenance planning, budgeting, and execution within assigned cost centers
  • Monitor and report key performance metrics
  • Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to improve equipment reliability, safety, and compliance
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives
  • Support productivity projects utilizing internal and external resources
  • Ensure adherence to cGMP, regulatory requirements, and engineering standards
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in assigned engineering and utility systems
  • Develop and maintain engineering standards, specifications, and work instructions
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide peer design reviews
  • Promote best practices in safety, compliance, and engineering execution
  • Support development of maintenance budgets and capital forecasts
  • Manage project expenditures within approved funding
  • Contribute to long-term asset and investment strategies for Site Services Utilities
  • Adherence to written procedures and documentation practices
  • Timely reporting of deviations and quality concerns
  • Participation in root cause investigations and quality risk assessments
  • Maintenance of proper housekeeping and personal practices
  • Ensuring appropriate use of PPE and safe work behaviors
  • Comply with all ESHS policies, standards, and procedures
  • Actively participate in safety programs and hazard identification
  • Lead or support Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Equipment Hazard Analysis (EHA) activities
  • Promote a strong safety culture through coaching and accountability
