About The Position

This position is responsible for reviewing fixed asset purchases, processing fixed asset transactions, and performing fixed asset analyses. The role involves tracking, tagging, inventorying, and auditing capital assets to ensure compliance with College, USHE, state, and federal requirements. It also oversees the College's non-capital asset process, including equipment tracking, record maintenance, and policy compliance. The Plant Accountant will perform depreciation calculations, capitalize fixed asset costs, and properly record asset retirements and disposals. Additionally, the role involves performing and coordinating regular physical inventories of capital assets and reconciling inventory records, as well as reconciling fixed asset accounts and supporting schedules. The position serves on the College's Centralized Equipment Committee, providing subject matter expertise on capital assets, advising on equipment purchases, and ensuring proper stewardship of institutional assets and funding. The role also assists with the preparation and submission of reports to governmental agencies, developing and maintaining the general ledger accounting system, preparing year-end financial reports, footnotes, audit schedules, and external audit requests. Furthermore, it assists with the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and process maps related to fixed assets and equipment management, and assists with institutional service journal vouchers (JVs), ensuring accuracy and compliance. The position may also perform other accounting duties as efficiencies are created.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree preferred in Accounting, Finance, or Business Related field.

Responsibilities

  • Review fixed asset purchases, process fixed asset transactions, and perform fixed asset analyses.
  • Track, tag, inventory, and audit capital assets to ensure compliance with College, USHE, state, and federal requirements.

  • Assist with the preparation of year-end financial reports, footnotes, audit schedules, and external audit requests.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and process maps related to fixed assets and equipment management.
  • Assist with institutional service journal vouchers (JVs), ensuring transactions are accurate, properly documented, and recorded in accordance with College policies and accounting standards.
  • Perform other accounting duties as efficiencies are created.
