About The Position

This position is located in the Development Center Division of the Development Services Department within the City of Oklahoma City and reports to the Chief Plans Examiner. The Plans Examiner is primarily responsible for reviewing commercial, residential, and related permit applications to verify compliance with applicable building codes, zoning regulations, and safety standards before permits are issued.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in general building construction as a plans examiner, inspector, contractor, architect, or in a related role.
  • Possession of International Code Council (ICC) Building Plans Examiner Certification.
  • The employee will be required to possess or obtain a valid International Code Council Building (ICC) Plans Examiner Certification within twenty-four (24) months from the date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion.
  • Continued employment is contingent upon obtaining a valid ICC Building Plans Examiner Certification within twenty-four (24) months from the date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and evaluating plans and specifications for compliance with City building codes and zoning ordinances.
  • Assisting the public with technical code information and permit processes.
  • Writing technical reports or correspondence pertaining to various projects.
  • Interacting regularly with contractors, residents, and City employees in the interpretation of City codes, ordinances, and policies.
  • Assigning work to and providing technical supervision for Code Technicians, as needed.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
