About The Position

The City of Berkeley invites applications for a Planning Technician in the Land Use Planning Division. The position assists the public and builds knowledge in planning, zoning, and building and safety codes. Duties include reviewing plans, zoning permit applications, and supporting documents for compliance with regulatory requirements; researching and compiling information on planning issues; preparing public notices; performing field inspection work; and carrying out routine office tasks to support assigned program areas.

The eligible list established through this recruitment may be used to fill permanent and temporary vacancies. City employees are required to provide services as Disaster Service Workers during an emergency or disaster.

Requirements

• Complete two years of college and have three years of technical or office support experience involving extensive public interaction, providing information, and reviewing and processing documents. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in urban or transportation planning, architecture, construction management, engineering, public administration, or a closely related field may substitute for the required experience.
• Be able to travel to locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet program needs and fulfill job responsibilities.
• When driving on City business, maintain a valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
