About The Position

Responsible for administrative work which requires excellent communication, comprehension, organization, and time management skills. Work is performed under the administrative direction of the Development Director or designee.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of planning principles and practices
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of research and data collection
  • Knowledge of effective communication and writing techniques
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills to explain rules and procedures clearly to the public.
  • Problem-solving skills to gather relevant information to solve practical problems
  • Ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment as required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • one (1) years of progressive experience in local government planning and/or development processes.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Florida driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical assistance and provides information to the public and staff in the administration of specific planning and zoning program areas and regulations.
  • Assists the Public concerning Development Department regulations and processes.
  • Coordinates with developers, and other County departments.
  • Develops and maintains tracking systems, hard copy and electronic files and records of development orders, permits and other related documentation.
  • Prepares narrative staff reports and recommendation of limited complexity, such as special use permits and variances.
  • Research and compiles information on a variety of planning issues from multiple sources.
  • Prepares maps, charts, or tables of limited complexity.
  • Performs administrative functions such as answering telephones, assisting clients, responding to emails, and serving as the Clerk to the Planning Commission and Board of Adjustments.
  • Prepares public notice ads, property postings, and mailings as necessary and attends public meeting to assist planning staff as requested and as appropriate.
