About The Position

The Planning Commission is a vital component of Cottonwood Heights' effort to ensure the long-term growth and development of our community. The commission is responsible for ensuring balanced, equitable, and sustainable planning policies that align with the city's vision for the future. The commission's work supports a broad range of community interests, ensuring that development complies with city standards and enhances quality of life for all residents. Cottonwood Heights is seeking qualified individuals to fill three vacancies on the Planning Commission. The Planning Commission plays a crucial role in shaping the future of our community by providing recommendations on land use, zoning, subdivisions, and the general plan. Commissioners will serve a three-year term and will be responsible for reviewing and advising on key development decisions that impact our city's growth, neighborhoods, and public welfare.

Requirements

  • Must be a bona fide resident of Cottonwood Heights.
  • Must possess a commitment to serving the community and representing diverse perspectives.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to present and articulate ideas in public meetings.
  • Ability to evaluate proposals in a fair and impartial manner, with an understanding of the broader impact on the community.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in urban planning, land use, architecture, real estate, or related fields is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Review and recommend the General Plan and amendments to the City Council.
  • Review and propose changes to land use ordinances and zoning maps.
  • Provide recommendations on subdivision ordinances and applications.
  • Advise the City Council on matters related to planning and zoning.
  • Review and approve conditional use permits as directed by the City Council.
  • Participate in public hearings and meetings, ensuring transparency and public input in the planning process.
  • Maintain knowledge of city development goals and legal compliance for zoning and land use activities.

Benefits

  • $25 per meeting, up to $50 per month
