About The Position

The Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts is seeking a Planning and Data Analysis Specialist Senior to provide analytical support for critical academic, financial, and operational decisions. This role will involve brainstorming and creating analyses to enhance strategic planning, financial education, policy improvement, and decision-making support, utilizing ASU’s various tools, methods, and techniques.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
  • Ability to hear a problem and identify ways to add data as a part of the solution.
  • Ability to communicate to all audiences regardless of their familiarity with our operation.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices pertaining to the assigned department.
  • Knowledge of administrative, financial, and business management principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of analysis techniques and reporting strategies.
  • Knowledge of computing and data analysis.
  • Experience in quantitative data analysis and interpretation.
  • Ability to collect, organize, synthesize and analyze data; summarize findings; develop conclusions and recommendations.
  • Knowledge of data management and information technologies.
  • Knowledge of supervisory principles, practices and techniques.
  • Experience in planning, analyzing, and coordinating activities and establishing priorities.
  • Skill in managing multiple priorities.
  • Ability to accurately and reliably interpret data for determining appropriate action.
  • Ability to stimulate changes in individual, institutional, and corporate behaviors to create a more sustainable environment.
  • Ability to lead by example, in communicating, participating and encouraging support of the institution’s sustainability programs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in higher education.
  • Understanding of financial terminology that is applicable to business in higher education.
  • Experience with data warehousing and extracting (Amazon Workspaces, SQL, Alteryx, etc.).
  • Experience with data analysis and modeling (R, Python, SQL, etc.).
  • Experience with data visualization using BI Tools (Tableau, My Reports, etc.).
  • Experience in custom report building in Workday, Adaptive Planning, or Office Connect.

Responsibilities

  • Performs complex and advanced research analysis techniques to understand current performance, analyze trends, and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Creates easily interpretable visualizations for non-analytical audiences.
  • Prepares or coordinates the preparation of reports; analyzes and interprets statistics, financial data, and management planning data for predicting resource needs and developing long-range plans.
  • Prepares presentations for stakeholders and university administration.
  • Develops the collection and analysis of data for Institute-wide projects including financial modeling, space utilization, student enrollment growth predictions, budget and forecasting analyses, employee personnel metrics, retention and recruitment, inventory assessment, and dashboard development.
  • Uses predictive modeling, statistics, trend analysis, and other data analysis techniques to collect, explore, and identify relevant data from internal and external sources.
  • Securely collects, cleanses, standardizes, transforms, and stores data from various sources, ensuring data integrity.
  • Maintains broad awareness of current trends in data collection, organization, data preservation, and numeric data analysis through professional activities and research to implement procedures and technologies for long-term dataset sustainability and accessibility.
  • Utilizes various computer programs and software for data computation, statistical analysis, and other data manipulation activities.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
  • Future potential to provide oversight of staff, including coordination of activities, managing and coaching staff to build skills in interpreting and reporting data analysis results to ensure adherence to stated outcomes, timeframes, and standards.
