About The Position

This position is a professional planning position and is responsible for implementing the Local Government Comprehensive Planning Program (Chapter 163, Part Two, Florida Statutes); interagency coordinated review functions (Federal Coastal Consistency, MPO Transportation Plans, Deepwater Port Master Plans, Campus Master Plans, etc.) and the provision of technical assistance to local governments. This position is responsible for conducting in-depth review of projects requiring a broad knowledge and expertise in planning principles and techniques and the use of independent judgment in implementing Florida’s growth management laws.

Requirements

  • Skill in both written and verbal communication
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships and negotiate effectively
  • Ability to perform word processing on a personal computer
  • Ability to apply planning methodologies, such as population projection
  • Ability to apply critical thinking for most planning problems
  • Ability to independently exercise sound judgment performing duties.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and manage time efficiently

Responsibilities

  • Independently evaluates comprehensive plans and plan amendments and other documents submitted to the Department under Chapter 163, Florida Statutes, for any impact to important state resources.
  • Prepare reports summarizing the issues, analyzing consistency with growth management laws, identifying strategies to achieve consistency with state laws and making recommendations for resolving issues with local governments and interested parties.
  • Prepare reports summarizing regional issues, analyzing consistency with growth management laws, identifying mitigation strategies and making recommendations for resolving issues with local governments and interested parties.
  • Provides technical assistance to local governments and communities on planning issues.
  • Assists Community Program Manager in drafting scopes of work for grant agreements and coordinating with grantees as needed to finalize scopes of work.
  • Serves on one or more special state initiative teams.
  • Participates in interagency meetings, workshops, pre-application conferences and public meetings as the Department representative.
  • Other duties as assigned
