Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning or related field from an accredited school or university.
• Two years work experience in Urban Planning at the local level, either in the public or the private sector. (Examples- Planning Internship, Planner I, or Assistant Planner)
• Additional relevant work experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above knowledge; skills and education requirements may be substituted in lieu of specific education requirements.
• Valid Texas Class “C” Driver License.

Nice To Haves

• A Master’s Degree in Urban Planning or related field is preferred.
• Membership in American Planning Association (APA) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct research and prepare special reports and studies.
• Act as a principal liaison with applicants of processing development projects and other applications for the Planning and Zoning Commission, Zoning Board of Adjustment, or City Council review.
• Review for compliance and provide Development Planning’s approval of cases that typically only require staff-level approval (such as non-residential site plan packages, other similar reviews.
• Provide information to citizens, developers and others on zoning and development applications and review procedures, regulations and policies.
• Prepare staff reports and make public presentations of matters pending before the Zoning Board of Adjustment, Planning and Zoning Commission, and City Council.
• Coordinate the recommendations of other departments, divisions and groups, both internal and external, in the review of development applications and special reports.
• Required to work as an essential employee before, during and after an emergency or disaster, whether natural or acts of war.
• Stay abreast of, and comply with, all City and departmental policies and procedures.
• Perform other assignments and duties as assigned by the Principal Planner and/or their designee(s).
