About The Position

The position represents an opportunity to analyze, plan, and advance transportation improvements. This position is responsible for assisting in the management of the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) and helping with the integration of performance targets in the TIP and Long-Range Transportation Plan (LRTP), helping with evaluating the performance of transportation projects, and helping to manage transportation data sets. An ideal candidate will have experience in metropolitan transportation planning, data analysis, transportation performance management, transportation project development, safety countermeasures, and an understanding of the local/state/federal funding opportunities for implementation. This position reports to the Performance Based Planning and Programming Team Lead.

Requirements

  • A Master's degree with a major in Planning, Anthropology, Political Science, Public Administration, Economics, Geography, or a closely related field of study; and one year of experience in planning.
  • A Bachelor’s degree with a major in Planning, Anthropology, Political Science, Public Administration, Economics, Geography, or a closely related field of study; and three years of experience in planning.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Knowledge in transportation planning principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of the relationship among federal, state, and local transportation planning process and requirements.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations governing metropolitan transportation planning.
  • Knowledge and application of citizen-based participation techniques.
  • Ability to build and reach consensus.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use a computer and related software.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and proofread technical documents.
  • Ability to prioritize work.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Skill in public speaking and making sound recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the development of the Transportation Improvement Program
  • Assists in the development of the List of Priority Projects
  • Assists in the Tampa Bay Regional Project Prioritization project
  • Prepares the Annual List of Obligated Projects report
  • Evaluates the performance of proposed transportation projects
  • Analyzes and prepares summaries of transportation data
  • Prepares and delivers presentations to the TPO Board, TPO committees, and stakeholder groups
  • Performs other related duties as required.
