About The Position

Performs professional work in urban planning. Performs a variety of program or project planning activities which impact municipal development and include analyzing data and formulating and recommending plans and programs relevant to municipal conditions and needs. Employees are usually assigned to a particular planning subject area such as land use, transportation, urban design, growth management, public art, community/economic development, or historic preservation. Work is performed under the direction of a Planning Supervisor and reviewed through conferences, reports submitted, and results obtained.

Requirements

  • Planner I: Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Urban Planning, Architecture, or related field required and six (6) months of experience in urban planning or related area required ; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Planner II: Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Urban Planning, Architecture, or related field required and two (2) years of urban planning or related experience required ; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Planner III: Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Urban Planning, Architecture, or related field required and four (4) years of urban planning or related experience required ; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License required within 30 days of hire.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in any field is acceptable with AICP certification (for Planner III).
  • If this posting indicates a degree is required, the following experience will apply in lieu of any degree as follows: Two (2) years of direct experience for an associate degree; Four (4) years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree; Six (6) years of direct experience for a master's degree; or Nine (9) years of direct experience for a doctoral degree.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in related field desired (Planner I).
  • Experience with CAD, GIS, SketchUp, Photoshop, Illustrator, or comparable design software preferred (Planner I).
  • Master’s Degree in related field and six (6) of months related experience desired (Planner II).
  • Experience with CAD, GIS, SketchUp, Photoshop, Illustrator, or comparable design software preferred (Planner II).
  • Master’s Degree in related field and two (2) years of urban planning or related experience desired (Planner III).
  • Experience with CAD, GIS, SketchUp, Photoshop, Illustrator, or comparable design software preferred (Planner III).
  • AIA, ASLA, or AICP Certification preferred (Planner III).
