About The Position

Hampton Lumber is seeking a Planer Supervisor for the Swing Shift at their Warrenton Planer Team. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires a safety-oriented, people-focused, and goal-driven individual who is approachable and trustworthy. The supervisor is responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the swing shift team, including safety, quality, continuous improvement, training, teamwork, and retention. They will collaborate with the leadership team to foster a positive work environment and achieve the goal of being the Employer of Choice in the community. The schedule is Monday through Thursday, with hours potentially varying based on operational needs.

Requirements

  • Experience in supervisory or lead responsibilities and/or demonstrated professional and technical expertise.
  • Ability to correctly interpret company policies and procedures, particularly safety policies/procedures.
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply the latest technologies.
  • Ability to learn the Sawmill manufacturing process, including the operation and troubleshooting of sawmill equipment.
  • Must maintain a current First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects to meet production schedules.
  • Ability to resolve problems and follow through with all concerned parties.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve work problems and/or assist teammates in solving work problems.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with dimension sawmill and Sawmill operations.
  • Knowledge of optimization systems for a Sawmill.
  • Knowledge of quality control concepts and procedures in a modern sawmilling environment.
  • Proficient typing skills and familiarity with Microsoft Word & Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safety for themselves and the crew, acting as an advocate for safety and promoting safe work behaviors.
  • Set and maintain all safety standards for Sawmill personnel.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work environment, including buildings, grounds, lunchrooms, bathrooms, and rolling stock.
  • Provide relevant and effective safety training for Sawmill personnel.
  • Oversee the quality of products produced by the sawmill swing shift, including performing visual lumber quality checks and spot checks.
  • Ensure maximum value extraction from raw material using WoodSmart data.
  • Execute established standards for quality checks at all stages of production and compare actual results against them.
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of personnel engaged in the production of logs to rough lumber.
  • Establish and monitor machine center standards, comparing actual results.
  • Work in coordination and cooperation with other departments.
  • Implement measures to improve production methods.
  • Involve the Human Resource Office in changes affecting personnel.
  • Train and motivate employees.
  • Maintain time sheets.
