We are seeking an experienced ICC-Certified Plan Reviewer to review residential and/or commercial construction documents for projects in Texas. The Plan Reviewer will evaluate plans, specifications, calculations, and supporting documentation for compliance with applicable adopted codes, referenced standards, Texas requirements, and local amendments. The ideal candidate is technically knowledgeable, detail-oriented, responsive, and able to prepare clear, code-referenced comments while meeting established review deadlines.

Requirements

  • Current ICC Plan Examiner or Plan Reviewer certification applicable to the assigned discipline.
  • At least three years of relevant experience in construction, design, inspection, engineering, architecture, code enforcement, or plan review.
  • Working knowledge of applicable International Codes and referenced standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, calculations, product approvals, and engineering documents.
  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to prepare clear, professional, code-referenced comments.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Proficiency with electronic plan-review systems, PDF-markup software, and standard office applications.
  • Ability to work for extended periods using a computer and electronic plan-review software.
  • Ability to read detailed plans, calculations, technical documents, and specifications.
  • Ability to participate in virtual and in-person meetings.
  • Required ICC certifications and other applicable credentials must remain active and in good standing.

Nice To Haves

  • ICC Residential Plans Examiner certification.
  • ICC Building Plans Examiner certification.
  • Additional ICC certifications in electrical, mechanical, plumbing, accessibility, energy, or fire disciplines.
  • Applicable Texas-issued inspector license when required for the assigned discipline.
  • Experience working with a Texas municipality, building department, third-party plan-review firm, architecture firm, or engineering firm.
  • Knowledge of Texas accessibility requirements and locally adopted code amendments.
  • Experience completing remote electronic plan reviews.
  • Experience reviewing residential, commercial, solar, generator, roofing, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or other single-trade projects.

Responsibilities

  • Review residential and/or commercial construction plans, specifications, engineering documents, and supporting materials.
  • Determine compliance with applicable adopted building codes, referenced standards, Texas requirements, and local amendments.
  • Perform reviews only within the disciplines authorized by the reviewer's active certifications, licenses, qualifications, and jurisdictional approvals.
  • Evaluate applicable building, structural, accessibility, life-safety, energy, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and fire-resistance provisions within the assigned scope.
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and code-referenced review comments identifying deficiencies and required corrections.
  • Review corrected plans and written responses to confirm that identified deficiencies have been resolved.
  • Confirm that documents are complete, consistent, and properly signed or sealed when required.
  • Maintain accurate electronic records of reviews, corrections, approvals, and related correspondence.
  • Complete reviews within established deadlines, statutory timeframes, and service-level requirements.
  • Communicate professionally with contractors, architects, engineers, municipal staff, customers, and internal team members.
  • Escalate complex code interpretations, conflicts, and work outside the authorized discipline.
  • Stay current on ICC code updates, referenced standards, Texas requirements, and local amendments.
