About The Position

Assist academic teachers in the instruction, supervision and care of students in a variety of instructional settings, including special education, general education and work/community. This role requires a willingness to acquire skills related to supporting classroom teachers, following behavior management plans, maintaining student documentation, and assisting with the implementation of Individual Education Plans. The paraeducator will also prepare instructional materials, perform personal care duties for students with disabilities, supervise students during transitions and in various school environments, and reinforce teacher directions. Participation in IEP meetings and community-based instruction is also part of the role. Additionally, the position involves organizing student work, preparing attendance reports, assisting with feeding, toileting, and diapering as needed, and implementing strategies to manage student behavior. Support for students with physical disabilities, including lifting and positioning, is also required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and support classroom teachers with educational activities
  • Take direction and guidance from teachers and building principals
  • Follow behavior management plans for individual students using best practice strategies
  • Maintain students' daily behavior/academic documentation
  • Assist in the implementation and monitoring of students' Individual Education Plans
  • Prepare and organize instructional materials, displays, and equipment
  • Perform personal care duties for students with disabilities as needed
  • Prepare and supervise students in bus loading/unloading
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and orderly instructional environment
  • Supervise lunchroom, playground, halls, classroom and other assigned areas
  • Clarify and reinforce teacher directions
  • Participate in IEP and other meetings as required
  • Assist with instruction in the community setting as required
  • Assist students with assignments
  • Organize daily student work folders and organizers
