Piping/Mechanical Field Engineer - Sparks, NV
About The Position
Bechtel is seeking a Piping/Mechanical Field Engineer for the Thacker Pass Project near Winnemucca, Nevada. Thacker Pass is a lithium mine and processing facility being developed for Lithium Americas, with Bechtel serving as the EPCM contractor and managing contractor integration and procurement. The project is intended to support U.S. clean-energy production and incorporates measures such as using excess process heat to generate electricity and recycling process water. The Piping/Mechanical Field Engineer reports to the Area Field Engineer/Project Field Engineer and provides technical oversight of mechanical activities in the assigned area. The role provides technical direction and supervision to direct-hire and subcontractor workforces and supports mechanical installation, coordination, inspection, documentation, materials management, and resolution of engineering and constructability issues.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or international equivalent and 5–8 years of relevant experience, or 9–12 years of relevant work experience.
- Contract management experience.
- Understanding of Bechtel work processes and Standard Work Process Procedures.
- Familiarity with Bechtel Standard Applications (BSAPs), including ACONEX, TEAMWorks, Bechtel Productivity System, PTR, eSub, and other project automation tools.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel, and database systems.
- Working knowledge of applicable industry codes, standards, and current industry design practices.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of multiple engineering disciplines related to industrial construction projects.
- Thorough understanding of construction activities, including engineering interfaces, cost control, scheduling, and contract administration.
- Knowledge of Project Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) Handbook requirements and applicable Bechtel Core Processes.
- Understanding of project-specific environmental compliance requirements.
- Knowledge of Bechtel's Zero Accidents safety program.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- Prior U.S. mega-project direct-hire construction experience.
Responsibilities
- Perform and support mechanical installation activities across all construction areas.
- Coordinate work schedules and material deliveries with field supervision.
- Complete assigned training requirements.
- Prepare mechanical installation work packages.
- Inspect field installations and complete required documentation.
- Manage quantity take-offs, tracking, reporting, and forecasting for mechanical work.
- Prepare field change notices and as-built documentation.
- Interface with engineering teams to resolve design and constructability issues.
- Prepare material requisitions and review vendor drawings.
- Coordinate with Procurement and expediting teams to help ensure timely material delivery.
- Ensure equipment is stored properly to meet environmental protection requirements.
- Perform material receipt inspections as required.
- Review specifications, inspection reports, delivery schedules, instruction manuals, and technical data.
- Assist in preparing construction estimates.
- Provide technical direction and supervision to direct-hire and subcontractor workforces in the assigned area.
