About The Position

The Pipe Designer is responsible for developing accurate, coordinated 2D and 3D piping design deliverables for process and utility systems. This includes piping layouts, isometrics, plot plans, material take-offs, and other design-related reports. The Pipe Designer develops deliverables in accordance with project requirements, applicable industry codes and standards, and established design procedures. This position works collaboratively with engineers, lead designers, and other design disciplines to develop coordinated, clash-free designs using CAD software, 3D modeling tools, and other supporting resources.

  • PDF editing software
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, sketches, and design markups
  • 1–3 years of closely related piping design or drafting experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Certificate or diploma in drafting, design, piping design, or a related technical/trades discipline preferred.
  • Working knowledge of applicable ASME piping codes, standards, and specifications a plus
  • Familiarity with PIP standards and plant layout and piping design practices a plus
  • Basic understanding of piping design principles and plant design practices
  • Experience in an engineering, EPC, fabrication, or industrial project environment a plus
  • Experience developing 2D piping drawings and/or working with 3D plant design models preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain 2D and 3D piping design deliverables in accordance with project requirements and established department procedures.
  • Develop process and utility piping layouts, isometrics, plot plans, and other piping design documents.
  • Create 2D drawings based on design guidelines, engineering sketches, redlines, and direction from Lead Designers or Checkers.
  • Incorporate drawing markups and redlines accurately and efficiently.
  • Reference and coordinate drawings and design information from other disciplines.
  • Assist with the development and coordination of piping deliverables to support project requirements.
  • Utilize CAD, 3D modeling, and other design software to develop and coordinate piping designs.
  • Review models and drawings to identify potential interferences and support the development of clash-free designs.
  • Prepare material take-offs and other project-related reports as required.
  • Perform thorough self-checks of completed work to verify accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Follow department workflows, drawing standards, quality procedures, and document control requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and other disciplines to resolve design and coordination issues.
  • Apply applicable industry codes, standards, and project specifications to assigned design work.
