POSITION SUMMARY: Maintain and/or operate all pipeline facilities including valves, piping, pigging activities, shut-ins for maintenance/construction and operations, line locate activities, general system operation monitoring, right-of-way, and inspection of third-party activities, meter stations and regulator stations. This position will be required to learn all modes of station operations. This position at times will also be required to assist with monitoring and maintaining additional equipment associated with and not limited to remote compressor stations, valve sites, natural gas engines and compressors.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Must be able to pass drug test and background check
  • Must be able to work 12-hour shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Attention to Detail: Develops ability to be careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks.
  • Hazardous Material Regulations: Develops knowledge of Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA). regulations governing the shipment of hazardous materials.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Develops ability to understand and apply mechanical concepts and principles such as, but not limited to, sounds, heat conduction, velocity, gravity, friction, pressure, kinetic and potential energy, etc. when working or using mechanical machinery.
  • Operation Monitoring: Develops ability to watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
  • Pipeline Operations: Develops knowledge of pipeline system operating parameters and practical experience with equipment such as pumps, compressors, regulation, shutdown equipment.
  • Public Safety & Security: Develops knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
  • Repairing: Develops knowledge of and ability to repair machines, devices and equipment based on electrical and/or mechanical principles in order to diagnose malfunctions.
  • Conducts tests and inspections to evaluate quality or performance.
  • Watches gauges, dials or other indicators to make sure machine/device/equipment is working properly.
  • Able to read, interpret and engineering drawings, diagrams and schematics.
  • Safety: Applies in difficult or complex situations ability to recognize safety risks in operational activities and use appropriate measures to control and manage identified risks.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures compliance with operating procedures and regulations and maintains/repairs pipeline equipment as needed
  • Commissions start-up and shutdown of pipelines and performs leak surveys of the pipeline system
  • Installs pipeline markers and performs routine inspections on rights-of-ways
  • Locates pipelines and oversees excavations and line crossings
  • Records and maintains operating data, completes required reports, and creates work orders as needed
  • Must be successful in completing required Operator Qualified tests (OQ) for covered tasks
