About The Position

ONEOK’s Asset Optimization team is seeking talented individuals with a passion for exploring innovative solutions and driving success in organizational objectives for the System Optimization engineering team. Optimization Engineers work with stakeholders throughout the organization to maximize system performance today, and identify opportunities for growth and improvement in the future. Our team focuses on driving success by applying understanding of pipeline hydraulics, business fundamentals, data analysis, and innovative thinking to create right-sized solutions for opportunities such as: Pipeline Projects: Expansions, New Builds, and Acquisition Opportunities Daily Operations: Pipeline Efficiency, Maximizing Throughput, Emergent Event Response Future Technologies: Renewable Power, DRA, Advanced Analytics Power Management: Hedging, Demand Response, Power & DRA Contracts System Optimization's overarching goal is to elevate the performance and culture of those around us, both within the team and with external groups. The ideal candidate will be someone with a passion for driving excellent results, strong understanding of pipeline hydraulics, engineering fundamentals, analytical skills, and ability to lead successful projects with diverse stakeholders. This position will be filled at a level commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or closely related field and the following job-related experience
  • Experience and knowledge of engineering design and criteria for pipeline systems
  • Experience at this level is typically attained with a minimum of 7 years of experience in engineering and pipeline design/operation, preferably with a hydraulic focus.
  • Experience with hydraulic modeling software including or similar to SPS, Fathom, Synergi Gas, Emerson PipelineOptimizer, ProMax, VMG Sim, etc.
  • Experience and knowledge of pumps, compressor stations, and/or storage facilities preferred
  • Experience with BI/analytical tools such as PI, Spotfire, etc. preferred
  • Experience identifying, researching, understanding, evaluating, and prioritizing problems and coordinating appropriate action/response
  • Experience with and knowledge of pipeline hydraulics and operations.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic modeling concepts, software, and tools.
  • Ability to: apply math, algebraic formulas, hydraulic equations, affinity laws, and statistical methods for detailed analysis
  • Knowledge of: pipeline operations and commercial functions with the ability to understand and analyze business impacts
  • Ability to: analyze and resolve complex issues and/or questions concerning engineering design and calculations
  • Ability to: read and interpret governmental regulations including DOT 195 and/or 192, contracts, manuals, specifications, surveys, charts, and other relevant reports and correspondence
  • Ability to: identify, plan and organize projects to completion, goals, and initiatives
  • Ability to: lead groups effectively
  • Ability to: manage and prioritize multiple assignments with competing deadlines
  • Ability to: use logic and reasoning to identify alternate solutions or approaches to a problem
  • Ability to: interact, collaborate with teams and communicate effectively
  • Ability to: operate office tools and equipment required
  • Ability to: communicate thoughts, ideas, information, messages, and other written information, which may contain technical material, in a logical, organized, and coherent manner

Responsibilities

  • Leads steady-state or transient hydraulic modeling for existing assets and potential expansion projects with minimal supervision.
  • Makes and implements recommendations for improvements related to capacity, operating costs, and system operation.
  • Builds, maintains, and validates system models used for complex analysis.
  • Collects and analyzes data to identify significant business and pipeline optimization opportunities.
  • Recommends and implements new processes and ideas for enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of hydraulic modeling.
  • Creates pipeline operating plans and provides operational guidance to Operations Control and Scheduling teams when requested.
  • Supports planning of field operations projects and activities.
  • Evaluates potential projects to determine the value to ONEOK including economic modeling, process mapping, user stories, or other required documentation.
  • Engages with project teams through evaluation, implementation, and adoption to ensure expected value is achieved and retained.
  • Works with all levels of leadership to ensure alignment on current and future optimization strategies.
  • Reports on assigned projects through project management tools or other documents as required by management or the respective project.
