About The Position

The Pipeline Engineering Lead provides technical leadership for major domestic and international pipeline projects from conceptual studies and FEED through detailed engineering, construction, commissioning, and startup. The role leads engineering teams, assures the quality and consistency of technical deliverables, manages technical and execution risks, and develops practical solutions aligned with safety, cost, schedule, and client objectives. The successful candidate combines strong pipeline engineering expertise with proven team leadership, client engagement, and field execution awareness. This individual anticipates and resolves technical challenges, mentors engineering personnel, and supports successful delivery of complex pipeline infrastructure projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Mechanical, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Canada or ability to obtain registration.
  • Minimum 15 years of pipeline engineering experience, including leadership of large transmission pipeline projects through FEED and detailed engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of CSA Z662, ASME B31.4, and B31.8, relevant API standards, and applicable international pipeline codes.
  • Expertise in pipeline hydraulics and surge, routing and alignment, wall thickness and materials, crossings, stress analysis, integrity, and risk assessment.
  • Working knowledge of pipeline construction methods, constructability, field execution, commissioning, and startup.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, mentor, and develop technical teams in complex project environments.
  • Anticipates issues, develops practical solutions, makes sound decisions, and drives timely closure.
  • Influences stakeholders and builds alignment across engineering, project management, construction, and client teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leading large-diameter pipeline projects exceeding 100 km.
  • Experience with CO2, hydrogen, renewable fuels, or other energy transition infrastructure.
  • International project experience and previous service as a Discipline Lead, Area Lead, Project Lead, or Engineering Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Lead pipeline engineering for oil, gas, CO2, hydrogen, water, and multiphase systems on domestic and international projects.
  • Direct routing, hydraulic and surge analysis, wall thickness and material selection, crossing design, stress analysis, and integrity assessments.
  • Review and approve key calculations, studies, reports, specifications, and design packages; ensure compliance with applicable codes, regulations, client requirements, and work processes.
  • Lead engineering teams ranging from focused study groups to large project execution teams; assign work, establish priorities, and monitor performance against commitments.
  • Coach and mentor pipeline engineers, support succession planning, and foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performance culture.
  • Identify technical, constructability, schedule, and execution risks; develop mitigation plans and drive timely issue resolution.
  • Serve as a primary technical interface with clients and stakeholders; lead presentations, design reviews, workshops, and project meetings.
  • Build trusted client relationships through responsiveness, clear communication, and sound technical judgment.
  • Support constructability reviews, execution planning, field design changes, technical queries, commissioning, and startup.
