About The Position

The Pipelayer is responsible for laying and joining concrete, plastic, or cast-iron pipe for drains, sewers, and water mains. This includes rigging pipe for hoisting, setting pipe to grade, and affixing the pipe joint. Also responsible for preparing and grading the trenches either manually or by communicating with onsite equipment operators. This position requires manual labor as well as assisting other trades to the extent necessary with hands-on work. Durr TAKES CHARGE in constructing strong foundations to build upon. The Take Charge PIPELAYER: Ensures quality at a productive rate on each project · Installs sub-surface system for storm or sanitation sewers, drains, water mains, and ductwork for utilities with efficiency and accuracy · Lays out pipe trenches, following layout, blueprints, drawings, and sketches, coordinating layouts with supervisor · Grades, levels, and compacts trench bottoms and base materials using shovels, rakes, hand-tools, and vibratory and tamping machines · Checks slopes and elevations using levels and lasers for conformance with base and sub-base requirements · Properly measures and cuts pipes to required lengths using hand tools, electric saws, and gas-powered saws · Properly secures and rigs pipe materials, fittings, and other utility structures and items for hoisting and lifting operations · Aligns and positions pipes to prepare them for coupling at joints · Connects pipe joints and properly seals joints, using various types of jointing methods · Ensures that pipes remain clean and free of debris and earthen materials during installation · Taps and drills holes into pipes to introduce auxiliary lines or devices · Installs and assembles pipe assemblies, valves, backflow preventers, meters, and other pipe fittings · Backfills and covers pipes with earth and other backfill materials · Performs other General Labor and construction-related duties as assigned Mains equipment and tools to ensure long-lasting use · Maintains clean tools and equipment, removing trash, debris, and other material from in and around work areas and jobsites on a daily basis · Performs equipment and tool inspections on a daily basis and properly completes equipment inspection reports · Performs other jobsite cleanup duties as assigned by supervisor, specifically cleanup and organization that is required SAFETY – It’s not a slogan, it’s OUR CULTURE! • Be actively engaged on your project • Be a MENTOR – educate and provide guidance for those under your supervision. Requirements

  • Basic experience with power equipment, including powder-actuated tools, saws, drills, chippers, and grinders
  • Work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule
  • Able to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions
  • Basic knowledge of heavy construction, specifically pipelaying
  • Able to communicate orally and in writing
  • Knowledge of the proper use of equipment, materials, and supplies used in construction work
  • Knowledge of safety precautions
  • Understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions
  • Meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency
  • Able to accomplish goals in a team environment
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent sense of balance
  • Hand, eye, and foot coordination
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in underground pipelaying.
  • 2-4 years’ experience in road construction
