About The Position

Turner Industries is a fully diversified industrial contractor that provides responsive, innovative solutions to increase plant production, reduce costs, and prevent shutdowns in industries such as petrochemical, refining, energy, and pulp and paper. The Pipefitter position lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs, and maintains piping and piping systems, fixtures, and equipment for various industrial systems. This is a non-exempt role that reports to the Foreman, with assigned duties checked frequently according to specific procedures.

Requirements

High school or equivalent
One (1) to four (4) years of experience in specified skill (depending on mechanic level)
Basic knowledge of field drawings, sketches, and engineering drawings (A-class Pipefitter)
Basic knowledge of how to connect flanged pipe connections using a cross pattern bolting technique
Ability to read and utilize a tape measure properly
Ability to understand and utilize a framing square as it is applicable to pipefitting tasks
Knowledge of how to properly utilize power tools to prepare pipe for cutting, welding, threading, and bolting
Ability to make accurate and precise weld connection fit ups (A-class pipefitters)
Must pass post-offer drug/alcohol screen, physical evaluation, and sign acceptance of the Turner Industries Drug, Alcohol and Contraband Policy
Comply with company and client job site safety requirements
Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace

Responsibilities

Lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs, and maintains piping and piping systems, fixtures, and equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial processing systems.
Selects and inspects proper safety gear.
Selects size and type of pipe and related material according to job specifications.
Inspects worksites to determine the presence of obstructions and to ascertain that creating holes for pipe penetration will not cause structural weakness.
Plans sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other construction workers.
Cuts, threads, and bends pipe.
Assembles and installs a variety of metal and nonmetal pipe fittings, including those made of brass, copper, lead, glass, and plastic.
Joins pipe by means of threaded, caulked, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints.
Secures pipe to structure with clamps, brackets, supports, and hangers.
Installs and maintains refrigeration and air-conditioning systems including compressors, pumps, meters, pneumatic and hydraulic controls, and piping.
Tests piping system for leaks.
Utilizes a variety of power tools including electric, pneumatic, and battery powered.
Performs additional assignments per supervisor's direction.
