About The Position
A pipefitter fits pipe made from materials including steel, galvanized steel, copper, copper-nickel, and stainless steel, along with the appropriate valves and fittings. The work uses various tools and equipment and follows drawings, arrangements, and blueprints. Ingalls Shipbuilding production areas may involve working at different heights, in confined spaces, and in varying weather conditions. Work may be assigned to day or night shifts depending on shipbuilding needs. Ingalls emphasizes safe work practices and safety procedures that meet or exceed industry standards.
Requirements
- At least 6 months of pipefitting experience.
Nice To Haves
- Completed high school or an equivalent pipefitting technical program with NCCER certification.
- At least 1.5 years of marine, shipbuilding, and construction experience.
- Experience in layout, fit-up, fabrication, and installation of pipe, flanges, and valves.
- Ability to read and interpret trade drawings and/or blueprints using both metric and standard measurements.
- Experience setting and erecting units, with proficiency in using Datum Lines.
- Familiarity with fit-up and alignment tolerances, and advanced blueprint-reading skills.
